something like this with an extra bar under the dash to tie the two front corners together will work great

I want one already

Epic build. Cant wait to see the finished product.
Must say some people really go crazy with rat builds and tend to go over the top but this looks great.

Today we prep for painting, when I say WE I mean Evan. I have whisky poisoning and have been relegated to "Trusty Assistant" status.

We're going for a moody interior. Pics to follow later

Note the awesome galvanised lower dash bar. We'll not be painting that.

Alrighty, so a week ago my mate Stuart picked up our spare engine for a rebuild into a fire breathing monster worthy of Rat Rod status!

The original specs of the engine were;

1330cc
544 cam
Billet light flywheel
Cooper S spec ported head.

Upon disassembley We found that was nothing of the case! I think the 'reputable' workshop I left my engine with did a dirty on me! In fact I know. They also robbed me of various performance parts. Long story short, this isn't my engine! :D

The head might be mine... Any way The engine is off to the engineers for lightening and balancing, once we get the parts back it will be time to finalise the engine build and we'll go from there!

Evan has just about finished painting the interior and polishing the metal door fixings, it's looking pretty good so far. We also picked up a box of treasure from the UK, lot's of shiny things! pics to follow.

Note the wrong head gasket. F**** Stupid.

Time for an update!

Headed past Metals Centre in Selby to pick up a sample piece for our floor.
More coming from this place, they're pretty handy considering the millions of $$$ worth of laser cutting equipent!

So many kinds of shiny!

2014-11-26 12.49.40_4272590931.jpg

Also added some head light peaks which give the car some period cuteness, offsets some of the rat rod, but I think it works.

Ok, so early in the thread I mentioned the F****G STUPID and actually very painful Cranium Piercer of Death!

as seen here:

2014-11-26 17.45.01_8957605203.jpg

Evil and Painful. Now what some people do is put a sliced tennis ball over it while working, while effective this is not in my mind a suitable solution.
Granted, my original thinking was bonnet straps and quick release hinges to remove the entire bonnet, they are fiddly but no more cranium piercing...
Any way, it only took an Englishman FIFTY FIVE YEARS to come up with a working solution!!!! Can anyone guess what these are? :clapper:

Bonnet hinges that will elevate and stay locked at a higher angle.

Hahahaha! You win A 2ltr Coke

That's right people, these are Mother F***G Cantilevered Hinges!!!!
Easily the greatest Mini oriented mod ever!

Observe:

Bonnet Off. Rip out old hinges, need midget hands to get in under the scuttle. I swear these cars were built by little Japanese girls. Drill some holes and mount! Note Evan is weating his LED head torch so he can see WTF is going on under the Scuttle of Darkness

Before, note the proximity of the cranium piercer and the narrow angle of attack you have at the engine.

2014-11-26 17.45.11_4810397531.jpg

And after, head hooking is now a thing of the past and you can actually reach behind the engine block. Best hours work ever!

So much more to come...

You've clearly never worked on a Mini.

Having being a amateur mechanic, helping my brother and sister out with their mini's...

I found their brakes, leaving a lot to be desired....A LOT!!!!! But see you checked that on your list.

Radiators are to cramped up in the fender...Car too low to work on, unless you are a midget, O, did I mention the brakes.

Nice little car you got going there, and probably the first one that i have seen and heard of that is being pamapered the way you pampering your rod.

Your mini, may...just may make me consider getting back into one...but as a result of my experience with mini's...I havent purchased one - ever!

Keep up the updates!:ty:

PS - I saw your shark at Peters place, I have one word.....DROOL!!!

Thanks! I was being facetious about not working on a mini before :)
I'm also only and amateur mechanic and Minis are a great place to start learning. I am putting in a better radiator this weekend and am not looking forward.

I have much respect for the work you have done on the little beast so far, but must confess, seeing those nice chrome parts in there, I can not but wish it had a beautiful blue finish with a white roof...

But that's just me, do your thing, it looks silly cool.
