The Old Girl finally gets a voice!

So finally got around to doing this long-awaited little "mod". After some research and advice from the guys at Powerflow, I decided to just do a back box replacement for now and will do a decat later. Am very happy with the result. Nice low, mellow tone, NOT loud or intrusive or "hey, look at me". Just a nice hint of BMW V8. Wanted to keep her looking as original as possible, so stayed with the single tip. Also asked that they recess the new box high underneath the car, so you would not see it. Notice the CAVERNOUS space left by the old system...

Pics of install, and sound-check vid below. Lemme know what u guys think.

Install. Done by Powerflow Bellville.

I like the way she sounds...

Very very nice

Whats that noise when you shift to second?

Other than that :bravo:

Thanks Ahmed. I think the sound you are referring to is the indicator self-cancelling as the wheel centres out of the turn.

Can't really go wrong with the sound of a V8, unless you are RGM, then you can go very wrong indeed.

Now... why didn't you join us on the breakfast run?

Thanks Nic_s. Sorry about that, yea, was going to, but had to make a trip out to Roberton that same Sunday. Looks like I missed out on an epic meet...

I recently aquired an auto & have been toying with the idea of letting some rumble loose. Please pm the cost.

nice one...sounds wicked?

If you had to guess, how much louder than stock is it now?

Tx WyKid. To answer your question...in terms of volume it's definately noticably louder, especially at lower revs, but more than anything else is the fact that the stock system has pretty much no tone whatsoever...sounded like the old Camry I had (well almoast)...the only thing that tipped it off as a V8 was higher revving induction noise...I had more character coming out of my stock E46 325i! It's not like the E34's where the exhaust system, albeit on the quiet side stock, still expressed some tonal charater of V8-ness. Here it was just plain muffed into obscurity IMHO. So, apart from volume, it's more about tone, but heck, step on it from standstil and she growls! I must say though, when I do the decat, I might just get small silencers put in vs. straight pipe, otherwise she is going to start sounding WAY too "hey, look at me". If you go on youtube and search E39 540i Exhaust you'll hear just how loud these cars can get. I don't think the character of the car lends itelf to a "loud" exhaust. Tis NOT a Supra...
