So finally got rid of the Freeloader and this is the new practical family wagon
2005 X5 3.0d
I did a lot of research on family SUVs and nought comes close in terms of price, value, performance, etc, etc...
So far it has ticked all the boxes on comfort power and economy. 8.8l/100km from cape town to Villiersdorp (driving like a granny due to newborn on board). But mostly at the speedlimit. Overtaking is a cinch.
80km of bad gravel road over new years and the handling was superb. I had to throttle back due to white knuckled passengers. And as for stability on bad roads... Wow. Even with the big wheels tramlining on the uneven sections... I was comfortable at high speed on Darlings bad country backroads.
