Luckily I had the battery in trickle charge since yesterday. Its still surprisingly strong.

Then I fitted fuse 23 (fuel pump) as the last step before starting.

I imagined the car would crank for a long time before running. After a couple of turns she slowly emerged to life!!

I then ensued to run rampant around the streets shouting as if it just turned new year again. Beyond belief and extatic!

Honestly I was quite nervous that she might not start but was even more surprised to see her come to life on the first attempt.

I just need to get some more oil and water tomorrow as some of the water clamps weren't tight enough.

No oil or fuel leaks.

A bit of smoke was seen during warmup coming from the fresh gaskets. I believe this is normal.

One or two covers still need to be fitted then she is good to go. Ill have her in my driveway tomorrow washing her for the first time this year and in 7months.

Thanks to everyone for supporting me during this trying time.

Special thanks goes to Peter Chris and Rick. They calmed a lot if my nerves during the critical cam stages as well as engineering the head. And many many other things.

Luke helped source the elusive head gasket and thanks to Tiaan for helping with the tedious cleaning.

This thread will soon come to an end and I will continue to post on the main thread.

Here is the car's first glimpse of the world after its 7months of slumber

Thanks everyone :) Yes it is alive and very well. Purring even better than before. I'm still very gentle with her a I want to do clearances again after 1000 odd kms. Thereafter I'll start feeling her out a bit.

Will post a video of the induction noise soon enough. Still want to do valve clearances again and then thereafter I can start feeling the power.

I also want to fit the rear number plate holder.

Pics to follow.

Maybe after the 1000km you can give it a proper test run like this:rollsmile:[video=youtube]
On a privet road of course ;) oh and remember to take video please, we need some e34 m5 content from South Africa on youtube for a change.

Uhm no.

I remember watching this video a while back, poor car. Just cringed.

I'm very keen to take some vids of the car, however going to mozambique again for a while. Hopefully I can take some proper vids in feb. Still need to source correct shimms.
