The General's F13 M6 Coupe

Hi all.
So another update, sorry its been silent here.
So last week i noticed the AFR is very lean, and also when speaking to @Bugger he recommended i replace the gaskets in each turbo inlet, i did notice the inlet boxes on each turbo were reasonably loose, which may attribute to the fact that its allowing in unmetered air post-MAF, so i order from Craig at Century City BMW, and fitted them.

Also my Short Term Fuel Trims were reading 0 on bank 2, so something wasnt lekker

After installing the inlet boxes fit nice and snug with little to no movement. after fitting, i logged the car at idle, and noted that the STFT were reading and oscillating between backs as they should, so thats at least a plus, the AFR seemed a bit better too, however still lean, and when doing a pull, stayed around 14.3 AFR even up around 4500rpm, as well as boost staying as low as 11psi and struggling to build. so after seeing those details, i no longer logged, and turned around and went home.

the car was still smoking, and i have been setting up the camera in my garage as i reverse in to get a better view, and this has been the view pretty much every time.

You can see the smoke as i come into the garage, and it pretty much engulfs the car. so it is considerable.

Anyways, I did call Boetie last week, and explained the checks and attempts ive done, as well as the progress on putting on additional mileage, he asked if its smoking, and when i said yes, he said right, this should be cleared up, so there is indeed an issue, and that its time the car gets its way back to the shop, he said he will send a truck to collect the car, as well as deliver it when its completed.

So Saturday morning i gave the car a wash, and a roll back came through, i drove it on, and off she went.

I got word this morning that the car is at the transport Depot, and is awaiting collection by boetie personally.

This will be a great time for him to drive the car, and get a look at the conditions and smoke.

So now its a case of waiting to hear from the Budler team.
Have to say the guy has been patient and willing to listen to progress and concerns.

You chose the right vendor... Mistakes happens but it's a sign of a good vendor to be willing to correct any issues or oversights there might have been.

I hope you get your car back sorted and that you pull your for sale advert down and keep the car 😊
Here here,

Could not have said it better. And these days it is VERY rare for this service to be alive and kicking.

Props to Budler!

Thanks for the wishes and the thoughts everyone.
I do agree on everyones sentiments, issues can arise with any workshop, its how its handled after the fact that matters, and like i said in the beginning, i do believe the car is in the right place, and it shows.
So I tell you what, when they have sorted it out, instead of trying to get it shipped back to CPT, and squishing it in your tiny CPT garage, and getting dirty in that salty sea air, why don't you warehouse it at my place, and I'll do the necessary mileage on it to make sure it's 100% sorted out. I think it's a great offer.

I have a better solution. I am far enough away from the salty sea air but close enough for him to collect it every now and again to enjoy. :sneaky:

Hahahaha, sounds like a one sided deal, get the X4 M40i put on the truck and sent to me, ill keep the car warm while you test the M6, ill get that B58 breathing nicely down here. and get sent back with some experience under its belt... err... subframe...

The B58 is going to KZN next weekend, so I'll test it there first before deciding on whether it would be of any advantage in CPT. Once those tests have been completed we can make an informed decision. Until then, my offer stands cos you have a bike.

This thread has been way too quiet 😁
It is quiet yes. lol

Can give a short update. Budler and the team stripped off the turbos as a first port of call to assess the smoking, and found the Bank2 (Passenger) turbo to be in bad shape, with very weird residue/rust.

Apart fromt he rust, the blades were dry from possible oil leaking. however if you look closely, there does seem to be some damage of bent blades on 3 of the blades.

these are the last images, and they did some testing, and although the power was back, the car was still smoking to both Budler's and my dismay.

I was given a call Monday morning and the decision is to pull the motor again to investigate and find the root cause.
The motor should be pulled from today i believe, but they will update me once its out, so i believe only more information to be available from early next week.
No leak down tests or anything have been done as yet, so im leaving it in their capable hands.

Now i wait.

Damn bro, I’m really sorry you’ve been dealing with all this 😭 that’s rough.
Thanks man,
yea its a rough position to be in. But i have to commend them for stepping up to the plate and taking the route they have. First time i've dealt with a business thats handled the situation so professionally.
I just got word from them now that theyve started stripping the motor, and they will let me know what they fine.

so fingers crossed.

I’m impressed with how hands on they are to fix their mess ups. Allot of companies wouldn’t be.

Good morning all.

Been a while since my last update i know.

So, after the motor was removed, some investigation was done, and heads removed for checks. no cylinder damage of any kind at least and they looked good (No images unfortunately), however the Bank 2 head showed signs of Cyl7 and 8 valve stem seals leaking. checks were done on the valves themselves, and thankfully no damage to the guides, seats or valves themselves.

The injectors were also tested and sonic cleaned on the contraption, Cyl8 injector showed a bad spray pattern, not leaking, but not flowing near enough, i have a video of this, but too lazy to upload to youtube and load it here, but if there is interest, i can do that later, let me know.
After the cleaning, i was told the Injectors are now perfect, no leaking, and all flowing the same rate as needed.

The work was done to replace all Valve Stem Seals, and the motor was put back together, i also requested for all new Spark Plugs while they were in the general area, and judging by the look of the plugs previously when i removed them, it was time for fresh plugs.
The car has been put back together for the last week and a half. and been running with no issues. No smoking, and smooth running.

I requested some dyno time, to which they agreed, and i Provided my MHD log in details. (I created a separate gmail account and password, so that if i ever sold the car, i can sell the MHD account with it.)
first few tests on the dyno brought up a Misfire on Cyl5, to which the coil was moved to Cyl4, ran the car again, and subsequently the misfire moved to Cyl4, a new Coil was ordered. (I asked is it not prudent to replace all coils, and i was told not needed, and that there is no point wasting money where its not needed. Which i appreciated the honesty).
With the Coil replaced, some more runs were done to gather data, and the Budler team reviewed my logs last night and this morning. it showed Fueling to be in spec for stock software, so they not concerned on that front. the issue that was seen was that there was a large boost variation between banks, and after some investigation, its the wastegates that need adjusting. Now, this actually takes my mind back to when i had the car taken to Xcede some time ago for a health check, and there was a timing variation between banks, as well as boost variations, i have a feeling that the wastegates have been slightly out of sync for some time. So Budler and the team will loosen the turbos, and adjust the wastegates to close fully and correctly and then run another test again. This will be done during the course of the day and tomorrow, and ill get an update Thursday so that they can plan to arrange with the transporter to get the car delivered back to me.

Bit of a messy post apologies, doing it at work lol. But can do a clean up and upload the videos and some pics later if needed. but this is the just of it, and where i currently am.
Its been a long road so far, but, i commend the team for being so thorough, and keeping me updated. Id much rather have the sufficient time taken to do the work correctly, than rushing them and being impatient. Budler have been amazing, and i applaud them fully.

Will give more details when i have them.
