So my problem started with a leaking gearbox sump. I did some homework and was astonished at the pricing of the sump as well as the oil.

The quotes I received included a new plastic sump, 9.5L gearbox oil and labour.

Then I contacted Nico on Monday and after chatting about problem we arranged for the 335 to be booked in at 07h00 this morning.

Complete diagnostics were done and the readings as well as the oil sample test indicated that the existing oil had to be re-used as the clutches were already accustomed to the old oil and new oil would have caused the box to start slipping.

So I was initially quoted R5130 but due to the oil just needing to a top the complete cost was R3921.

Hardus was meticulous in his work. He ensured that all the mess created by the sump leak was properly cleaned so that after the covers were put back there was no chance of old residual oil to still drip.

Extremely satisfied with the repair and would recommend our newest advertiser to anyone requiring gearbox work

Mileage is in 184500km.

ZF recommends that oil be changed every 60000km.

In my case it is better to run the existing oil until the box gets overhauled:coolShake:

I had the same thing, they say that past a certain point, they gauged by the colour of the oil, you shouldn't put new oil in if there are no existing issues as the clutch packs burn with age and the new oil will more than likely cause them to glaze.

If for this exact reason I'm hesitant to have my box touched. At 195k km the box is still smooth as silk so I kind of feel like if it aint broke dont fix it

I don't think it is easy to damage the sump unless u do something extraordinary. It is well concealed.

The sump is plastic and at 10 years it started to warp and no amount of gasket replacements can solve the problem.

Yip same thing on mine. Weird thing with mine is car needed to stand for more than day without driving before I noticed only oil on the ground. I was told when driving the oil drains into the gearbox etc and only after more than 24 hours does it all slowly make its way back into the sump and then reaches the higher point from which it leaks. Any 335i auto owners I would really recommend the R5k top up/refresh near 100k kms.
