Started a new thread as Life with my E34’s is outdated
The Silver E34 540i (Auto) has been joined by a Dark Blue E39 540i 6 speed project car.

Brought it home for the first time tonight.

My. Dear .G... the difference between an auto and manual is mind blowing, this thing is a monster beast complained to my E34 auto, need to drive Raybimmer’s E34 manual to compare apples with apples

Note to previous owner, you did warn me about this car! I should have maybe listen, no the noise and power is sooo seductive
I found myself holding her lower gear just a too make that loud noise louder!:=):

Made me feel like a teenager all over again

Got to go to work at 2am tomorrow, think I’m going take a route pass some little boy racers houses that have a habit of tearing up the quite suburban roads at 1am :argh:

Revenge is going to be soooo sweet and in so much comfort – age has its benefits :joy:

Will post more pic's once done some more work to it.

Congrats! The E39 is one great car! And, in manual!!! True Joy! The fuel consumption on the manual is unbelievable compared to the auto.

I am finding it soooo hard to part with my E39. I have been test driving BMWs over the past two days but I haven't found a more luxurious, powerful drive than the E39.

What a great car! It is beautiful to look at, easy to maintain, very comfortable and POWERFUL!

Update
End of August – the new owner of the White 525i came to fetch the log book.
She has gone to a good home –
Proud Owner

19th Sept 2102
Today is my parents Wedding anniversary , ooops I forgot.
So had to pop out and get a present, shops are only 3 km’s away.
Left the house at 10am, got the 540’s wheels balanced at local tyre dealer, visited Jarred’s workstation, took the old route home via a hill climb, drove pass the Gonubie point, finally to shops , home 3pm
Round trip 160kms
A good day

Still enjoy the drive of the E34 but the E39 is begining to growl and bite.

With the E39’s chassis been 40% more rigid than the E34, the newer one may feel somewhat more solid. But I still prefer the ride in the E34, more feedback; the E39 seems detached cool for long highway trips
Both car have different characters, we enjoy them both.

Some pictures of my two

Two petrol eaters (two V8s to feed)

Puppy on duty, don't mess with "his" wheels! He gets to ride at the weekends.

Parking lot is getting full

+1 regarding the drivers feel for the E34.

Hands down the E39 is a great all rounder but the E34 is definitely a better drivers car.

Still my the howl of my I6 E34

Milestones this week:
Monday morning the Silver E34 clocked 335533kms.

The car is over 18 years and still going strong, the E34’s are well made. All the switches etc. are still in good condition, no fading. May people cannot believe the age and mileage. Still my daily drive, but she is getting a little heavy on juice due to the road works and the stop and goes, spend an hour crawling on long. Avg speed for this month 33.4kms at 17.9l/100km ouch!!!!
Arrg screw it, just sit back and crank up music and relax in comfort. Love the auto in traffic – lazy driver.

Dad’s be busy this on the E39 540i while I’m at work, organising the company’s move in 3 weeks.
Thanks to Jarred for fitting the latest upgrade

Going to the track tomorrow to watch the open day.

As 2012 draws to an end, what a year
Company moved office – on-going nightmare, cool building but I’m sick and tired of you the crap I’m sorting out, East London is unless place to get things done on time :bangdesk:
Dog turned six :bravo:
Sold the 525i
Went to doctor in November for a check-up and blood test, feeling tired lately, doc uses a ECG, and goes pale, “why what’s wrong doc” – Doc –“ you’ve had a heart attack within the last two weeks” - oh great! , off to specialist next day, :thumbdo:
driving at 40km/h not caring about the taxis or idiots cutting etc.
Funny how bad news changes your outlook on life.
Well R3000 later for walking on the specialist’s damn treadmill, and a good one liner –
“So what work do you do sir?”
“IT Administrator “
“Oh just like a doctor, only time they see us when it’s FUCKED!” :biglol:
Spent way too much fixing the 540i E34 – and then go buy another project – Big blue, total bloody madness. But so much fun to drive – thanks Clutch for creating this monster! Keeps me young.
Today Big Blue became blue bitch, blew off a water pipe sitting traffic at lunch time. Booking her into Jarod’s Workshop. :fencelook:
Down side of coastal town, Christmas times all of damn GP’s and OFS invade!
Happy holidays wishes to all and please travel safety!

So we’ve had a bad week so far.
Monday – Started work at 6am, on route to airport stop at petrol station, waiting a lights, watch a Jetta drive straight through a red light, guess what is next to me, a Buffalo City Metro Traffic Officer in his official 320BMW. What does he do F&&&&&&ing nothing!!
Get to airport cargo by 7am. Cargo department mess me around for 30 minute so we miss the 8am flight, next flight is 12:45. – Welcome to East London! – Speedy service is unknown. Drive back to office at 7:45am, 4 km from office, just about to put off at a traffic light, little voice says stop, a second later this idiot comes flying up Oxford road on the wrong side of the road pulls in front of me and then into the left lane, a is cutting through the traffic as if he is in a Hollywood chase movie. Idiot is driving a BMW E36 325i, number plate 000mer –FS
4 blocks later guess what I see driving hide a MPV, 000mer-FS – hmmm, I pass him, next thing he is sitting on my tail. I hit the gas and smoke him for 10 seconds. Next lights he turns left.
2 Lights later, turning right, a black E39 jumps the red light and nearby collects me.
By now my BP is sky high. I need to sell my all my Bmws , I do not want to be tarred with same brush as all other idiot BMW drivers in East London.
Thanks to the drivers of the white and black BMW's for giving all other Bmw driver a bad name, you a$$-h0les!!!!
On the way home around 6pm, this Mini Cooper S puts up next to me at the Main lights in Gonubie,
“Hey dude love your car and I want it!, I love the wheels the noise you made as pulled away under the bridge”
We pull into a bus stop – swap numbers, makes me a cash offer, as is with all its faults.
Hmm I’m thinking about really thinking about!
Both the family’s E34's seem to be popular

Thanks, the damn things scares the hell out of me times, Still finding my feet with it, got so use to the E34, which is more civilized to a piont.

Need to buy shares in a tyre company soon for Big blue. going to use her to cruise down to Knysna in May for the Hill Climb, and enter it into a few track days, all been well.

Going to miss the E34 with a sort heart, but if buyer does come up with the cash, I'm going to do the gearbox exhange to the 5 speed manual i have in the store room for a 530I, and fit a roll cage = 1 x track car!

Do not sell the E34....

Even if you do need the cash.

I sold my E34 when I got the M5 and I regret every day of it, man that think was just frikken awesome.

And the two gents I sold it to refuse point blank to sell it back to me, I should beat them profusely....

Do the manual conversion, its actually pretty easy stuff..

April 2013 already

Well been driving the E39 more these days, actually 95% of the time, with it been a little lighter on juice – only a little I.E. 1 more km per litre.
On Wednesday night, parked the E39, switched off and could hear that bad sound of steam escaping! Hmm, open bonnet – yip steam coming out of the top pipe on the radiator!
Thursday morning I drive the E34 and leave the E39 at home for dad to look at.
Remember the E34 has BMW sports seats; damn they are narrow and hard! The E39’s are like sofas compared to the E34’s, never noticed before. Well after a few minutes the E34, I was comfortable again and actually enjoying the drive, no-wonder dad has been offering to go the shop more these days. He is using the silver E34 because his and mum’s E32 has died and he is busy sorting out his E24 and mum banned him from driving her E34.
I’m a lazy driver, my first car was an auto, and I actually prefer a good auto over a manual esp. in traffic.
Also the e34 is a skinny thing compared the E39, easier to park and place on the road.
Friday morning decide to use the E39 again, 3 kms from work, stop at the light, white smoke! WTF, no it is not smoke it is STEAM, one blue E39 540i had become a V8 steam engine. Bitch!
On the top left hand side of the radiator where the pipe fits on to the expansion has broken off!
Dad has pulled out the radiator, decide to take it in today (Saturday) to be fixed.
But Guess What? – Not one radiator repair shop or supplier is F(((((ing open on a Saturday morning in East London
Welcome to East London!
Oh well just have to do it on Monday and drive the E34 – sorry dad you have be nice to mum for the day.

Hi all
My 1994 E34 -540i got flooded during a bad rain storm.
All the electrics under the back seat got soaked. The black box that controls the alarm, windows, wipers, sunroof, think it’s called a DWA4
Only can find dwa3 modules locally – are they interchangeable? Or must I keep looking for a DWA4

Only just read through your "captain's log; stardate........." :) Nice!!

Sorry about the flooded electrics, hope they won't be a nightmare to fix :(

I agree with you on the feel and durability of the older generation BMs (E30/E32/E34/E36), we should all grab one of these while we still can. They are simple, honest, built to last, and can still after a decade and a half put a smile on your face! It's not always about outright figures

Keep logging!
