Squeaky noise in engine

Hi guys,

My 320d is 4months old. Recently there's been an annoying squeaky noise (sort of like a squeaky fan belt) coming from the engine. Only when the car is cold though, so it's rather difficult getting it to the dealership with the noise still there for them to diagnose. Anyway, my car was due for a service and the service manager tells me that the whole alternator thing needs to be replaced because its one unit and that it is quite common in 320d's. I now need to make time to get this sorted.

Anyone with similar probs?

I have the same thing with my 320i, I'm thinking it may be tensioner pulleys.

I hope the noise is more annoying than actually damaging!
It's really embarrassing though lol.

Have an independent mech look at it for a comparative quote...could be just new belts and tensioner.

Hi ,
I also had that scueaky noise and replaced the belts and tensioner but was still there .The sound came and go even sprayed Q20.Suddenly my oil and charge/battery lights goes on and off while driving and found out it was the alternator .Got a brand new Bosch alternator at Bosch in parden eiland @ R3900,00.No problems ever since .

Just joined the group......I have the same noise on my 2006 320D. I am taking it to the dealership on the 17/01/2011. I will come back to you on waht the problem was and how the issue was resolved.

Hi guys,

I am going to make them change everything to get rid of the noise - just need to get a booking at BMW though. Does anyone know of a BMW dealership in Jhb that service department opens on Saturdays? It's new but i know that some dealerships open on Saturdays now.
