Vermaak said: “I have images of the new BMW being tested along the west coast. The car's dash is covered under a blanket type material in order to disguise it.”

“The model has Lamborghini type doors. The test drivers stopped briefly in front of my house and are currently in Doringbaai.”

The plug-in hybrid i8 is expected to sport a 164kW 1.5 three-cylinder unit coupled to an 96kW electric motor driving power to the rear wheels. The model is expected to deliver a combined output of 260kW and 300Nm.

The model reportedly weighs 1417kg and will have a range of 35km in all-electric mode. The i8 can sprint from 0-100km in 4.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 251km/h.

According to BMW head of sales and marketing, Ian Robertson, the BMW i8 is expected to cost more than R1-million.

Will the i-8 hybrid become the M8 with conventional powertrains? This one looks a lot more conventional than the hybrid, look are the normal looking rims and tyres.

Shape looks promising...........

the swirly camo on the car is useless, it actually makes the car far easier to spot than blend in............
