hi guys...

ok as some of you might know i had my car de-catted and she sounds stunning.

but here is the problem now. after the de-cat i noticed some smoke. is it possible that the cat blocked the smoke? so after the trip to middleburg on thursday i still noticed some smoke. i took the car to a local mac and he said its the valve stem seal.:thumbdo: atleast the fuel consumption is down:thumbs: i got 7.7km/p 100lt.

so gents i need some advice, this chap says its going to cost +-R3500
to get this repaired. he also said if we do the seals we might aswell do the rings,bearings,etc... i know the millage is high on the car it has 254k on it at the moment and we do about 600km p/month. this car cas been babyed since we got it in november 2011. how long does the seals and rings last on these type of cars? i has a full serive history with bmw:cry:.

but then in the same breath he says thats going tobe 10k+:argh::cry:

can someone please advise where i can take my car for a 2nd oppinion?

It could very well be the valve stem seals. I have heard of some cases where the mileage was a lot less. Are you in Jhb

might be that less backpressure in the exhaust system is enabling more oil to leak through the exhaust valve stem seals..

I dont know of any BMW specialists in PTA. You can give Ross Duncan in Midrand a call 0118053219

Just monitor the oil consumption, if it stays within limits, drive it until the smokescreen becomes unbearable then get it fixed.

have you looked at PCV? it could be sending oil into the intake change this 1st then look at the expensive stuff...

So my e46 318i has been puffing...and felt underpowered...
after reading and consulting..i decided to take a chance with the decat...
car is pulling much better....way better...but the downside is the smoke....
idling at the robot and pulling off is a nightmare....just SMOKE all over...oil smelling SMOKE...checked my tailpiece...oily mixture....
so i need to do my valve stems...and guides (once checked) car is on 176000 so i guess it's as good a time as ever....
