Out of interest sake , do you find that there is no power below 2000rpm andt then after 2000rpm all is well ?

hi, yep very weak around 2000rpm

my fuel consumption is around 11l/100km which is heavy for a 318i i think:dunno:

If the power is nothing under 2000rpm & then suddenly has power surge at around 2000rpm, could be the MAF.. I had similar

consumption is ok to me.. my 318i manual gets average 12l/100km.. but have had it down to 6l/100km on open road.

our 318i auto averages about 13l/100km with my mom & about 15 to 16l/100km with me

I usually aim to change gear around 6000rpm 1st gear to 2nd then 6500 the rest of the gears :)

Could be why my consumptions so high

you should not have no power under 2000...

but most cars are made to be driven between 2000 and 3000 so if you driving under 2000 your consumption wont be that great and you will be annoyed and bored every time you drive...

Except this a 318i - so no power under 3000 rpm anyway.

but if the MAF stuffed then no power under 2000 & then surges of power above that

I think for most petrol engined cars the ideal rev range for most driving conditions should be around 2000 - 4000 rpm. Higher if necessary for overtaking and lower revs if maintaining a cruising speed (level-ish surface or declines) where only partial throttle is applied. Basically keeping the engine in its comfort zone without lugging or over-revving...
