Selling my 328i, buying an 840ci

So..I've bit the bullet and decided to put a deposit down on an Oxford Green/Barbados green (?) 840ci. I've always been a huge fan of the crisp lines of the E31 and it still is - for me, the best looking BMW ever made.

The car is in the UK and the selling price is 4,500 pounds with 123,000 miles on the clock. It's a '97 so it's fitted with the updated M62 4.4l engine which we've grown fond of. I do expect high running costs, which is why im planning on selling my 328i and bring in a reasonable E36 318is (open to suggestion) from South Africa to use everyday - fingers crossed that I'll find a good one.

Our import tax ranges from 50-80% depending on engine size, model type and model year.

The car is due to leave on the 26th of October - if all goes well. Will arrive in Namibia (Walvis Bay) after 2 weeks

I think I've got a good deal, even though it's risky running a high-miler, i don't intend on using it everyday anyway....I plan on babying this thing - garaged, covered and detailed every two weeks :fencelook:

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, Ask the seller to take photos of the under carriage of the car. These UK 840's are known for their bad rust... VERY BAD RUST!!! And replacing all that with BMW parts can run up to R300k.

Super sexy , just make sure its not a scam as with most UK things

I made sure I sourced the car from a reputable dealer. There are plenty scams with private sellers. The dealer is called "Mayfair Prestige" and I've seen they have a Ferrari 599 GTO and a base 599 for sale on their website (just to mention a few).

Found the car on Auto Trader UK

I've asked my uncle in England to go and check it out thoroughly before i proceed with the transaction. If it doesn't turn out alright I've got a second one lined up.

The rust issue is frightening the hell out of me, I've ask the dealer to take the car for a full inspection. Hope it all turns out well.:blab:

Well done for taking the plunge! Congrats! The Eight was always a misunderstood car, although I always thought it was magnificent, and certainly more eye-catching than the SL. Prices are starting to creep above the contempory SL today. It's perfect as a cherished garage queen. :bravo:

I think the E31 was, is and always will be out of this world! Classic, beautiful, dynamic and just so attractive!

This and the M1 are two cars in the history of BMW that cannot be described by words! They are felt deep inside just by beholding them!

Beautiful machine! Hope you are in the driver's seat soon! How great it must be to live in the UK! The prices here for an 8 are crazy and we have such limited numbers.

My sentiments are exactly the same, this car will be/is a classic, will probably appreciate in value - wishful thinking? Lol

Had the car checked out, it's rust free! There are just a few minor things that need to be replaced before final purchase: water pump, new coils and spark plugs.

I'm thinking of having HID lamps fitted aswell and buying a set of 19" alpina reps (narrow and wide) to go along with it, would keep the original rims...not sure I want to mess around with the looks though, already looks so good
