Have you considered fabricating a half-cage? Your mention of only gutting the rear doors due to the weakening of the doors got me thinking more along the safety side of things...

I can only get cracking on the car on the weekends as its at my parents place and the wife gives me shit when I get home late, which always happens when I am busy with this car lol

Mirrors. Sunroof removal. Door pin straps. Door wiring delete.

Since my mirrors were really ruined I decided to try a different look and they are a tad lighter.

New mirrors

Sunroof finally removed. Is damn heavy !!!

Door pin straps. With the removal of the door cards the door pins tend to flop around so I did this.

Basically this was a ruined e36. That's why I am modding into a drift missile. I am sure this car would have been stripped and sold for spares. So I decided I would take a chance and try to save it.

Welded up the holes on the boot by making small plates

Was bad like this on both sides final product. I didn't through much trouble here as I want to get a lighter trunk in the future

Removed sound deadning from doors. It's so easy when there is no panels or mechanisms lol

Washed the engine bay still looks dirty so next time I am going to use oven cleaner

Hi peeps haven't updated in a while this is what I have been busy with so here it goes.

I decided to remove the subframe to start the powerflex bushing install. And I will be replacing the gearbox guibo and center propshaft mount too.

Here is the subframe being removed

Tried burning out the bushings but that didn't work lol

So then made a plan and with a prothane plumber torch I removed them. Basically I heated the metal around the bushing and used the following with the racket gun. It took me 10min per bushing
Bearing puller
Threaded rod
Thick washers and bolts
Ratchet gun - awesome tool
Sockets
Squarebar with a hole
Holesaw with drill bit removed
Prothane plumbers tourch
Spanners


Rear diff bush

Subframe bushes
Rear bush

Front bush

Here is why I was getting a knock we tapping the accelerator lol this was the diff bushing on the subframe

So the awesomeness begins

Here is my trailing arm bushing this is why you should check your cars suspension every so often

Basically to remove the subframe you must do the following

Disconnect the propshaft
Remove the calipers
Remove hand brake cable on rear discs
Disconnect sensors
Remove the 4 subframe bolts
You will need a trolley jack to help you lower the subframe.

It's actually a good thing removing the subframe to make sure that the is no damage on the mounting area on the chassis

This is not my car but this is what happens.

You can reinforce it with m3 plates. But I will do this later on as they need to be welded in.

Here are the m3 plates installed

Changing the diff will be much easier in my opinion than removing the subframe

Ok so this weekend felt a bit lazy but still did some stuffs.

Was time to remove my old diff and investigate as it had a bit of a leak. The diff u removed was a 3.46 ratio

So my drift spec diff was prepared for R300 it is a 3.64 till I find a 3.91

80w90 oil was used

Powerflex diff bushings installed

Also decided to check the condition of the subframe pins and found that they were actually loose. This is what I am referring to.

Basically from the drive terrain in the rear I can see that the following issues this car had

Loose subframe pins
Missing 1 side of the swaybar
Worn rear shocks
Left hub had 2 Brocken bolts in it
Damaged side shaft
Damaged guibo
Damaged center bearing
Brocken engine mount bracket
Rear trailing arm damaged bushing exposed
Ripped bushes on 2 of the 3 diff bushes
OEM subframe, shock, diff and arm bushes had become soft
Rear ball joints badly worn
Inner bush on on the one trailing arm had come out

I can't wait to get this car on the road again with all these worn/damaged parts replaced

Just waiting on my trailing arm as I cannot continue further

Btw I am looking for this part it's from the rear sway bar

I need the mounting bracket and bushing for a 17mm swaybar

Yeah I cant wait to get some seat time once its done.

The one thing I love about this car is the learning experiences that I have gained.

I have some crazy ideas for the far future for this car.
