Ripped engine mounting + other stuff!!!

So yesterday it kinda went wrong with the 540i. It seems the left engine mount gave in. The motor then pushed the brand new fan blades against the fan shroud and broke a blade. The pipe that goes from the engine to the radiator is just long enough and when the motor shifted and pulled at the pipe it cracked the radiator. :bawling::bawling:

Luckily I notices something was off when I got in the car to go home after work. So no over heating of any kind and the car is currently at M Saich. He's suppose to phone today with the total cost of the damage. :bawling:

Eish Nic. Not good man.

I feel your pain.

Good luck and we hope the outcome is not too bad.

Oish Nic that is not good, hope the damage is not to bad and the repair costs not too hectic...

Seems to be a common issue on these cars. I had to replace the left engine mount on my car after buying it also, did not think it could be this hectic. The previous owner did give me a heads-up though, the only time you noticed it on mine was if you gave it stick in first gear and when you put the clutch in you would hear a clunk as the engine settled down again, guess the 400nm combined with manual box is the culprit...

That's why I made extra clear to the Mechanic that I want the OEM mountings as he suggested that I could get the right mountings from Masterparts. I'm guessing Febi, but I went the Febi rout on the 318i (BMW didn't have stock and it couldn't wait 3 weeks) and I'm not happy with them. They are super hard and thus you experience a lot of engine vibrations.

What would the radiator cost be at BMW? :mmm:
I've already looked on www.rmeuropean.com and I'm pretty sure it will be twice (or more) at the local dealer. :hammerhead:

I've heard that E46 mountings are the same as these, not 100% sure though. Pretty sure stealers will be pricey for the rad but hey check you never know. I've heard guys on the forum mention Silverton radiators and Behr as good options too.

Just came BMW. Just under R8000 for the Radiator and just under R1200 for the mountings... each!

I think it's pretty clear I'll be ordering in...

Dude!

Phone Silverton for the radiator, where do you think BMW get's them?

The 540 hydraulic mountings are actually fine with Febi I used them, but I have the intact OEM old ones left if you want them?

I also have a 540 radiator that's been repaired but works.

I hope this gets sorted out for the best in the end, but I agree with Rick in particular with regards to the radiator - can't really go wrong with Silverton and I am sure their vaseline is fair bit cheaper than the agents! :)

Good luck with the repairs!

I met up with Rick and he helped out with some mountings and a radiator from a E39. The mountings from BMW would have set me back R1100 each. So I just want to thank him hugely for his help.

My car is now up and running again. :):)

I need to by the man a beer sometime... so I can pick his brain for all the info he has :):)

So far all seems well with the car. Haven't really driven it anywhere on the open road yet since the fix.

You are welcome Nic!

Did the radiator fit?

The size is right, but it needed some mods (Not really sure what) according to the mechie so I got a new radiator. I still have your radiator and my old one.
