Reputable BMW RMI Approved Mac???

Hi Guys

Due to some fanatics trying to record every bit of their car such as Service History, Repairs & Maintenance to hold their value, We tend to look for an RMI Approved Mechanic, Or go to BMW Directly - Which then is an arm & leg :fencelook:

I am aware of some companies that specialize in BMW's such as RGM, Sav Speed, TuneTech, etc. Who are also a bit pricey.

I have my car for a year now - Which is a 2004 E46 330i and I have purchased the car with a Mechanical Warranty. I have serviced the car once from the time I got it due to my driving been moderate, And choose to do it with Technospec who is RMI Approved.

To cut to the chase, Who do you refer as a BMW Mechanic. I know a lot of you guys would say Gizmo, especially because I have an E46. I have read a lot of his threads and he does seem brilliant!:thumbs: However, is he RMI Approved?

Due to claiming from my warranty i need a Mac that is RMI Approved, in order to put in claims. Who would you refer?

You seem like the type of guy that performed proper due diligence on your car prior to buying?

In that case, I presume it's a car that was well looked after, FSH ect?

If I were in your shoes I wouldn't be too concerned about warranties etc. It's not like you buying a 13 year old Alfa. It's a E46, one of the best build BMWs. Plus, it's a straight 6, which is also very reliable (I sold mine with 355 000km).

One only has to look at one build thread to say, take to uncle Gizmo

The place I bought my car from uses Nige Auto from Benoni. He replaced my water pump when I purchased the car. Nice to hear a good review about him. He is quiet reasonable with his prices too :thumbs:

Yes I did check all the elements before purchasing the car Lol. :fencelook: However, I got quotes for overhauling my motor. Complete top end. New rings, bearings, head, head gasket. Etc. And my warranty covers 12k. Which is quiet a saving. Hence me looking at using an RMI Approved Dealer. Once my car warranty is done. Gizmo would be my first point of contact without a doubt. :thumbs:

There is a general misconception that "FSH" means the service history must be from either BMW or from an RMI approved workshop.

Strictly speaking, you can service the vehicle yourself and as long as you record what was done in the service manual it will still have a full service history. It doesn't have to have a BMW stamp or an RMI stamp. That would simply mean it has an accredited service history. If the RMI workshop forgets to stamp the book and you don't notice, and then the next service gets stamped in and so do the rest, your service history is not full and you can't advertise the vehicle with "FSH".

However, Service isn't the part that gets to me as I can service the car myself if need be. When it comes to my warranty. Due to the mileage being 206 000km at the moment. My Mechanical Warranty is on plan C. Which does cover a fair amount. So an RMI Approved Mac would be compulsory to use at this moment.

I think I'd use him then hey... Would give it a bang when the time comes :ty: . After he replaced my water pump I had no issues since. Thanks bud

I believe the work you put out should be what makes your business reputable. Having a certificate from a dysfunctional organisation that you paid to call you reputable does not make your business reputable...Case in point KVI had his 335i butchered by a RMI approved workshop and now when he claims for poor workmanship RMI want nothing to do with him and say there is nothing they can do...RMI are quick to take people's money and give nothing back in return, the typical SA business model...

But I totally agree with you. After Market Warranties push you into looking at an RMI approved workshop. It's actually scary taking your car to any Tom, Dick and Harry. Especially for repairs, not so much service. My warranty expires in a year, I don't think I am going to purchase another one.
