Found this, not sure if it'll be helpful at all?

To check for possible causes of HTTP 503 errors
1.Check the HTTP.sys error log for information about the error being returned. See Table 11.11 HTTP 503 Errors from HTTP.sys for error descriptions.

2. Check the event logs. Typically, the event logs contain more detailed information about the cause of a 503 error.

3. Verify that health/recycling issues are not causing the error.

4. Check for server binding conflicts.

5. Check the IP inclusion list for errors.

Not sure if I'm the only one getting these errors?

I keep getting:

"Service Temporarily Unavailable

The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request."

Our banning is IP based. So if you have a random IP (Like when using vodacom/MTN internet) then you sometimes end up with and IP address that's been banned. If you reconnect you should get a new IP.

We have to ban by IP otherwise the same spammers will register again with a different username.

We know. Trying our best to get them even before they post. :thumb:

You can not ban on IP (made that mistake in the past) unless you are positive it is a .ru or one of those foreign IPs, so you will first have to trace the IP before you can ban the IP, I am on a WISP connection, so me and the other 4000 odd running with the same WISP, all have the same IP. WISP works to a central point and then from there the connection is through someone like verison, on one dedicated IP.

As for MTN and Vodacom aught to be all SA based IP's.

Has MyBB not got built in protection for blocking spammers ? If not, should you not be looking at an alternate forum software that can, like phpBB3 or some thing like that.

MyBB does have build in protection to prevent bots, but anyone can register and post if they validate their email address. I'm looking into maybe changing this procedure.

If I look under the list of banned IP's I get stuff like this: 112.111.*
The is kinda small though. I don't know exactly how the coding works for blocking different IP's, but it's only happened a few times that some members have an IP that is being blocked due it being banned. And so far all have been using either vodacom 3G or another network.

Hi
Everytime the forum opens it looks fine for 2 seconds then the whole top half of the screen turns BLACK.

press the right combination of links to get to a place to login as this is coverd by the black strip.

all other functions seem to work fine, just this stupid black piece that covers every 1st half of the page

EDIT on 21 June 2011:
Regarding the black screen problem users have on older browsers:

When some the scripts were first used it didn't work properly in the latest versions of some browsers (Specifically IE9). The script was then updated so it would work in the latest browser versions. Unfortunately, updating it made it not work in IE7. The best would be for users to update their internet explorer to IE8/9 or start using something like FireFox or Google Chrome.

Download links:
FireFox: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/new/
(FireFox will import any stored info from Internet Explorer)

Google Chrome: http://www.google.com/chrome/

IE9: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/internet-explorer/products/ie/home
(I haven't personally downloaded IE9 as I only use FireFox. Please let me know if there is any issues downloading it and I'll find a different link.)
