Why not a e90 330i with M sport pack, it might even give better mileage than the e46.

If I'm gonna get a E90, the 330d is the only engine I would consider (besides the 335i, but that is way over my budget).

E90 330D - Big Car, big power. (add plug n play = +-30kw 70nm)
Mini - Its so small and girly or is it just me

I dont think you can go from a 330i to a Mini, thats like a downgrade.
Ive never seen 3 guys on the back seat of a mini :=):

how about a 125i or 120d?
Good size cars and surely you wont need a big car as the e90 if you dont have any children as yet?
I have the 1 series goes great, smooth and comfy, and with a light foot it will go for a long time.

DS3 Turbo? Good looking thing! I would consider it.

No - I'm a BMW/Mini brand biased person ... yes, yes, I know the engine in a Mini is a joint dev between BMW and some random French company.

Not a fan of the 1 series. I do have kids, but I've got another car as a "family" vehicle.

The 330d is appealing because of the engine.

Buy a 540 for R40k and then you have R160k left for fuel.
Of the 3 cars you listed, i would go for the Mini.
Or AJM's M5 :fencelook:

Looks like I've eliminated the E46 M3.

If I get a good deal on either the Mini or 330d, I'll go for the first decent one that pops up.

NO, NO, NO !!!!

You get the BEST ONE, and you search till the END of the WORLD till you find it, this isnt just a car with a badge. Its a DREAM, its your WEAPON, its you ENTERTAINMENT, it will be your LIFE away from LIFE, ppl will look back years from now and say do you remember that cool car "msm" had, that lucky guy, that guy really lived his LIFE to the FULLEST.

Now go out there, and make us PROUD. :=):

What part of the 330i is making you bored? If it's speed then the Mini is quite a downgrade.

I would hold out for the 330d, that would be a nice upgrade.

The Turbo Mini Cooper S would kick 330i ass anyday

2011 Mini Cooper S = 135kw, 240nm
2004 BMW 330i = 170kw, 300nm
2005 BMW 330i = 190kw, 300nm
2007 BMW 330i = 200kw, 315nm

Im gona go with 330i, on this one, cause every guy with a 330i, would still mod it a bit and then you have a crazy beast

I guess I'm also looking for something a bit different. 330i with auto box started feeling a bit "lacking" for me.

Ignoring the fact that they sound terrible, they only have some weight advantage. A well driven 330 will kill it. Not to say that the Mini is a boring car to drive, but coming from a 330, wouldn't make me happy at all.

Another thing to consider, msm would be going from an auto to a manual (if he bought the mini) which is already a boost to the fun factor. I still think the diesel would offer MUCH more.

I can understand that, I'm not a fan of the E46 auto boxes so you would get a lot more feel out of the mini.

Nah - after driving a 330d, the 330i just does not feel the same. The tractability is what makes the difference, not the figures.

The Mini is a turbo so it has a bit of poke up here at altitude, hence why I don't mind that one too ...

I dont care what the specs say.
Here at the reef the 330i doesnt stand a chance against the R56 Cooper S...... or i cant drive.

Also, I'm not after all out performance and not too worried that a 330i is faster than a 330d or Cooper S.

For me, as poles apart as they are, both the Cooper S and 330d have a certain fun factor to them that I enjoyed ...
