Just curious to know where the red line is on your E46 330i. Mine starts at 6500 RPM, but I've noticed a few at 6000 RPM.

Was there a spec change? Were the individuals different?

Same here, mine starts at 6500 RPM but can definitely feel the power drop off just before 6k.

Since power peaks at 5900 RPM that might explain why some cars show 6000 RPM red line :dunno:

I have also seen that, but as far as I know all the M54 engines came with the slightly increased red-line of 6500rpm, with the M52 engines having the 6000rpm one. I have to say, if I step on it a bit I rarely take is about 6-6.2k as the rev-limiter is set to almost just above 6.5k.

Mine redlines at 6800rpm :pimp:

But this is after Xcede's magic was done. Prior, 6500rpm also. Made most power at 5500rpm though.

On my rev counter it redlines at 6500, well the red squere starts just past the 6500 line, but I can also rev it up to 6800 with my ACS software.
I almost never rev it that high, it's just sometimes when i get a bit eager and I dont monitor my revs that I rev it into the red by accident... :mmm:
I then quickly tell my car:"sorry baby" and slap myself twice, and drive on with 2 red cheecks. :)

my red line starts an 6k and the limiter is at about 6.5k i dont like going into the red and have only hit the limiter twice since getting the car... apparently its not to bad to hit the limiter but i just dont like it :)

I feel bad now I must admit I've hit my limiter quite a few times recently but not on purpose I find 1st gear is so short and I get excited when the car revs up and b4 I know it I'm in the red line. But I normally treat her very nicely haha

What is the point of software increasing the rev-limiter? Don't you actually need to do things like the head and the cams to be able to get any advantage out of and increased rev-limiter.

Exactly! But, thats the point of software, to increase the rev-limiter so that you can do the head and cams and get the full potential! LOL

But, software also increases the length of your power band, i havent dyno'd yet but my butt dyno says that the power band is now longer. Before, i use to feel most power between 4500rpm to 5800rpm, now its from about 4000rpm to about 6000rpm. Waiting for dyno to prove it.

The reason for the rev limitter to be increased, is so that your car can scream like your wife when you ridee it hard... :mmm:
