Leo Haese neglected to fasten some bits on my car, so I will be getting more of them from BMW to add to the collection

How unusual for the agents...........

Started the monster truck a bit earlier.
Rear silencers not connected
Neighbours most unhappy

First attempt the car was dead as a dodo
We changed battery and nothing.
Crawled underneath to spray muti on the gearbox contacts and still nothing
Looked at the ecu box and there were 2 spaces open for a blue and green relay.

Relays were located in centurion and a 2 hour trip later the car started on 5th turn once fuel was in the rail.

Looks like we may have a cam sensor error which will be looked at tomorrow so final assembly of peripherals is on the go even as we speak.

My gosh that V8 is a monster to start

btw we needed a viscous and agents quoted R2941 VAT included.
Paid for the exact thing R1705.
Agents are crazy and profiteer like crazy.

Updates on the build as follows:

Had an engine oil leak from the dipstick tube to the sump which dripped roughly 1 liter of oil in 3 days.
Took a day to fix by changing a brand new O ring with another brand new O ring.
Hopefully it will not leak again however given how this project has fought us every step of the way I for one am not holding my breath.

We are now busy flushing the gearbox from the water that it was filled with from the leaking heat exchanger.
Have done the first oil filter change and will later do the final oil filter change and fill her up with the synthetic oil.

The first gearbox broke as a result of water being introduced into it via the heat exchanger, it was changed at ZF with an exchange unit however the heat exchanger was not changed.....we shall see.

Word of caution to high mile V8 owners with auto boxes......change your heat exchanger before it starts dripping water in the gearbox and destroys it.

Cost to replace box is R32k from ZF.

The guy I deal with at ZF gave me the same advice about those pesky heat exchangers. What was wrong with an air cooled heat exchanger I don't know, typical BMW making everything so complicated and expensive to replace...

Price on said heat exchanger for E39 540i?

What symptoms would one experience if water starts getting into the gearbox from the heat exchanger? (E70 4.8i X5).

And now you even have liquid cooled ECU's
