Rebuilding a 4.6 V8

As previously stated the car was taken on Thursday for exhausts.

This is how the car left.

And this is how it came back today with a bonnet that would not open as well as beeeeeg dent in the bonnet.

Also a broken fan blade as well as a wobbly viscous when hot.

It was too dark to get a clear pic of the broken fan blade but will do so later.

Clearly they forgot a tool in the engine bay slammed the bonnet shut jammed the bonnet and then proceeded to apply a combination of brute force coupled with stupidity to release the bonnet which they eventually succeeded in doing and in the process we have 3 palm depressions on the right hand side of the bonnet as well as the tool indentation on it and a broken fan blade air intake and cowl .

The owner is at liberty to disclose the exhaust shop should he be so inclined.................

This is a 4.6iS X5.

I shall take you a bet that once this is brought to the attention of the management at the exhaust shop they will swear on a stack of holy books that it was not them.........

I initially did not notice the broken fan blade however when I rotated the fan I eventually saw it.

BMW fans have a habit of shattering and leaving a trail of destruction in their path and they do it for no apparent reason other than old age.
This is a new fan and viscous and the break has no stress fractures at its base but is a clean break.

I am surmising that they shut the bonnet with a tool in the engine it depressed thee air intake and the cowl which in turn depressed a blade and when they started the car all hell broke loose.

Not nice.
Owner is looking for matches and petrol and not necessarily to burn the X5

i will contribute to the matches, the part that really pisses me off is when the shop will try to hide the fact. they should have come clean first.

That's simply not good enough! If it was my shop the first thing I would have done was notify the owner of the vehicle of what has happened and offer to foot the bill for the repairs as its clearly negligence on the staff's behalf...

...And don't get me started on that piss poor crush bent exhaust system, I wouldn't have paid the exhaust shop for that dribble they call an exhaust...

I am keen to know which shop this was.

We should start a thread for battle of the worst workmanship.

On the Opel forum,a guy got his car back after having some work done at an exhaust shop. The chops welded the downpipe to the cast turbo manifold! So much for using the v-band clamp.

Now i am even more curious to know why this happened. My experience at PF Edenvale was without issue.

Did they do a crush bend exhaust for you too?

From previous experience with different exhaust shops their staff change regularly (experienced being replaced by inexperienced) and the lazy boss sits in his office all day not keeping an eye on what goes on around the shop floor, his employees cut corners to save time and end up damaging cars...Seen it all too often before and not just exhaust shops, all shops!

Please post a pic of the huge dent in the bonnet, it may need replacement and Im sure Leonard will pop in to confirm. PF should pay for all damages done but if they have one of those coward signs on the wall that says "Not responsible for damage or theft." then they are going to hide behind it...

I get what you're saying Warren. And also in agreement that if someone/company makes a stuff up that they should be named and shamed. They simply can't try and get away with damaging a car and hoping it goes unnoticed.

Give Shaun the chance to decide if he wishes to reveal who it was.

I feel for Shaun that now sits with the damage. Irrespective if they sort you out afterwards people should be warned.

Personally I've had a pretty good experience with their work. Not including crush bend exhausts. And I have to add that I am always hands on working as much as they are on my car to make sure things go smoothly. (This is purely personal as I'm like this with everyone)

It was a mandrel bent exhaust, but comprised of mandrel bends welded together. From my experience with PF Edenvale I did noticed that the boss was keeping an eye on progress and checked up quite a few times, but that might not have been the case with Shauns car.

With regards to the sign, my understanding is that the company is not liable for theft or damage from natural disaster or similar, not damage that they inflict. I hope i didnt misunderstand all this time.

Irrespective, they should be responsible for the damage.

P.S. i also keep an eye when my cars are in workshops, especially those that have signs stating that customers are not allowed in the workshops.
