Rant: Motorplan extension cost

R 12 583 for a car that's under 60000 kms just for time extension... Where did BMW get this value from... I mean come on. I've looked around the forum and was expecting around 8k:RedNo:

...I'm still getting it though :roflol:

I always thought it was cheaper to buy years instead of KM's with Mplan. we paid 8K to extend our e90 325i by another year as the car was 78K km's when the plan was going to expire.

sometimes its worth it .... had the vacum pump for the brakes faak out 2 weeks back ... 6k bill to motor plan .. e90's only got 68k km aswell ...

MP Renwals are rediculous.

To Extend for another 12 months and 80000km will cost you R161814 incl VAT.
That's a whole new car.
Mind you this is for an F30 320i. Not sure if it differs from the other models.

Check snipet below from BMW Owners Circle when I try to renew online.

That's crazy! This is something I'm keeping an eye on since I'm at about 65 000 km and will likely hit 100 000 km when the car is 4 years old.

Out of interest, are you actually considering this?

When I bought my M135 and required about it I was told by a BMW Branch manager that it's purposely done to force people to get into a new cab instead of renewing. Business tactic.

That's just madness. Mind you the motorplan has already spent about 150k on my car so I will look at extending when the time comes. Can't afford a new one so that option is out.

Nothing new here.

Doesn't seem to stop people buying BMW's. But lets face it, the BMW MP's are so comprehensive.

What I have always done is sell the car before MP is up, and let BMW dealership give the next owner an extension. Make the system work for you, not against you.

And that's exactly how they created the environment.

Compared to my previous Jag, they aren't that badly priced.

My advice if you can do an extension do it. I took a time extension on my 335i for a year, and at the end of last year on its last service on MP BMW replace my engine, turbos, diff, entire coolant system to name a few, bill was over R225 000. So to me the R11k I spent on the extension was well worth it.

Well it goes a little something like this.

We are one of the only countries in the world to offer a motorplan in the form of how we have motorplan.

We are also one of the countries in the world that drive our cars over 100,000 km. the rest of the world replaced the car at 40,000 or 60,000 cause the cars are cheap/disposable

The calculations are done based on the amount of field failures per model, and average price to repair.

They can easily determine, price the stuff that they know is going need to be done, brakes ect those are easy, next take the average failures of say a gearbox on your specific model, and if it has a high probility of failing, ad costs for replacement, and so it carries on.

And you do get those where things go really realy wrong, say on an M3, tthen they need to work in so that you could help pay for it too.
