I agree with the guys here in saying that dont sell the car just. Get it looked at properly and take it from there 1 step at a time. Document everything that needs to be done, and get them done at your own pace. tackle one thing at a time, be it cosmetics or mechanical. Also, not everyone is here to bash you up on your purchase and make you feel you bought a POS. Some of us are here to offer sound advise if we can.

I do hope you get decide to restore her to its former glory, just remember, patience, time and some capital outlay will get you where you want.

BTW, I drove my first e46 M 2 weeks back thanks to forum member who allowed me the opportunity....I am absolutely in love with every aspect of it so my vote gets that you keep it and sort it out.

agree with the last couple of sentiments that have been posted, its easy for people to post here and not know the financial or emotional connections we have with a car...

dont be afraid to get your hands dirty, tackle whatever you can by yourself where possible. There is a wealth of information on this forum and on the internet, it just means taking time to do research and plan and plot your course of action.

Its like everything in life, nothing that is worthwhile comes easy.......and it if were that easy, then everyone would be doing it.

Good luck and hopefully the last few positive messages here, help persuade you and steer you in another direction

Agree with all the above.

There's so much written about the E46M3 out there and it's such an iconic car, it's worth your time doing the job slowly and properly, as money allows, over a period of years. Turning the car into the beast it should be.

Having purchased a car doesn't mean your bond starts there, it starts months/years earlier with a dream

I honestly don't know how this entire episode got to where it is.. That being said, do not dwell on any negative comments and don't let that influence your decisions.. Your decisions should be made solely by you, I am not saying you should disregard everything said, as many members here have extensive knowledge of these cars but that should not detract from your experience with YOUR car.

Ultimately, the car is yours to do what you will. The post you made about the car exceeding your expectations is a far cry to where you are now, considering selling the car at a loss.. My advice is the same as many others, look at mechanics first and then the cosmetics will follow in due course.. You have your dream car already, just work on making it better for YOU.

Firstly, congratulations on your purchase - if this is a car you like and you hold dear, don't let the masses dictate otherwise to you.

Before having posted here, you should have read through a few threads so that you can make yourself akin to the following:

- people on here will scare you into thinking your purchase is poor, if it deviates ever so slightly from OEM.
- the same people battering your purchase will offer you 'advice' and also their services, in the vague hope that you'll side with them and send your car to them for them to repair
- most people will comment on your car without ever having owned an M Car and going by what they read on the internet, and what they heard from someone else

In summary:

- don't let the naysayers put you off
- take what you read here with a pinch of salt
- research your plans in detail, from independent sources who have nothing to potentially gain from you
- enjoy your car for what it is, and as a project it will prove fruitful

Dude he bought a car that was in a front end smash and the previous owner hid it from him. There is no sugar coating that.

One of the best sounding motors out there ( I'm still waiting for my drive John Doe ). Irrespective of the fun stuff being said on this thread, the car is yours and you will love it enough to called a bmwfanatic. Gents here are more than capable to advise and help you out - that's why we get soo passionate.....

I would not advise a panic sale, that will only end badly.

Stop, take a break, and then assess the facts.

Do a full assessment of te car and figure out exactly where you stand between where the car is right now, and where you want it to be.

There has been a lot of cynicism in this thread, and frankly it is for good reason. M cars that have not been looked after, or where short cuts have been taken, are almost always money pits.

But let's not over react. At the end of the day, you are the only one who needs to be happy with the car. So do your fact finding, consider your budget, and te amount of time you plan on keeping the car and take it from there.

I don't think half the commenters here quite understand just how much an out-of-plan M car can cost you.
You could end up hemorrhaging cash at a rate you never imagined.

If your intent was to get into an E46 M3 and use it as a daily, I would say you need to get out of the sale or sell it as soon as you can.

If your intent is to have something special, in the form of a nice ongoing project car, then keep it and restore it. Working on your own car and restoring it to a minter is something that few things in life can give you. Its a sense of ultimate self-satisfaction. But it will be very expensive. Don't kid yourself about that.

If you thought you wanted to use it as a daily, but you can leave it in the garage and drive something else as a daily, then you can consider it as a project car.

Again, do not keep it if it is your only car and you need to use it as a daily means of transport.
