I checked the car for him on Enatis... OUTSurance car... so yea :thumbdo:

Does it point to the possibility of it being a rebuild or code 3 vehicle?

Not a code 3, but an Insurance write off, so it was deemed not viable to repair, and paid out.

Dear all folks, thanks for the attentions. As Coisman mentioned, this is a trap, so I have a peace in my mind now, will be looking for another one from now, will post on Car wanted section later.

Thanks again Coisman and John, and all your suggestions.

Ye, there are so many scams out there, I have met a guy selling an Audi A4 2008 earlier this year, test drove it, everything was fine, stated 10 0000km, I then did a search myself on transUnion, the car was transfered in 2014 @ 190 000km already.....so good bye. But on this E46 I couldn' t find any record myself. Luckily I joined this forum with many helpful people, Coisman and John and all of you. Hope I will be a more experienced guy that can help others too.

buying a diesel can become expensive if it was not maintained.

In terms of the turbo listen for whistle and check there is any play on the turbo wheel.

Another good thing to do is get the car on a lift like at a supa quick or speedies to see if you can find anything underneath the car

Also very important listen for knocking in the rear

My advice to you is to look for a BMW fanatics member that is looking to sell their E46. There are quite a few guys that have extensive build threads on their E46's which highlight the maintenance performed and care given to the car. Sure, some of them might have some high mileage, but I'll buy a car with double the mileage over a car with no concrete evidence of proactive servicing and maintenance. It's the price you pay for peace of mind. If you are going to take the gumtree/AutoTrader route, I warn you to expect , upon purchasing, a lengthy checklist of to-do items that you could easily avoid by purchasing a car with a transparent and illustrated maintenance record.

I am learning it by heart. Very helpful experience. Thanks!

Ye, never trust olx/gumtree sellers, must do sufficient homework.

I believe if BMW cars been serviced/maintained well, 300k is a piece of cake. I will keep an eye on the for sale section.
