Oil, Prolong, Fuel

1. What is the best oil to use with 2003 E46 320d (6Sp), synthetic oil or normal diesel turbo oil and what brand? I see on the oil cap they recommend Castrol Oil?

2. Can I use Prolong or PS23, or is it not recommended? I used it on my 2.8 V6 Audi and it was good for the engine.

3. What diesel is the best?

4. I went to the Eastern Cape and towed a Camp Master Town and Country trailer and drove at 125km/h with cruise control. I got just below 14km/l, is this good enough, or should I get more?

Firstly... Welcome to the forum and you should introduce yourself... Make an intro thread in the New Members section

1. Check in the owners manual as it should specify there... There's plenty of discussion as to what brand of oil... Do a search on that one... Alot of members swear by Liqui Moly oil, which you can obtain from Moranor@Axis on the forum

2. No idea...

3. Best diesel is 10ppm diesel from Sasol if you can get it in your area... Otherwise stick to the 50ppm... Your car may respond differently to different brands so find the one that works for you... My now Ex 2.0TDI Golf loved BP and Total diesel the most...

4. 14km/l equates to around 7L/100 which isn't bad considering you were towing a trailer... You could perhaps do a bit better though...

But lets see what the experts thing

1. Liqui Moly is a decent alternative, Helix HX7 is also an alternative.

2. Just No... do not even consider it, if you want to be good to your engine, change oil ever half of service level, so 7,500 if service is 15, or 5 if its 10, but im pretty sure its 15.

3. 50ppm at a minimum

4 Fuel consumption is right.

good oil is what your engine needs most... in general additives degrade your oil

if you are going to use additives only use them to solve a certain engine problem... and then they should only be used when engine work will not fix it

liquimoly produce both good oils and additives so you dont have to worry about compatibility issues if you use their oils and additives

that said many of my customers swear by an mso2 additive on this engine
