Oil for E90 320d

Hi Guys

Just trying to check what’ll be the best oil for a E90 320d? Shell HX8 ok?

Spoke to someone today and he said he uses HX5 because it is thicker because of my mileage that’s on 263 000km.

Now I’m confused.

HX8(5w40) or HX5(15w40)?

I’m planning to change oil every 7000km moving forward.

I heard guys are using Shell Helix Ultra, 5w40.
I'd personally go with that, I have only heard good things about the Helix Ultra.

Spec oil is 5w30, higher mileage I would recommend 5w40. Both my 330i and 330d are running Helix Ultra, but you will be fine with HX8.

I changed from Helix Ultra 5w40 to Motul 8100 x-cess 5W 40. Both are fine.

LiquiMoly GT1 10w60, works fine if you're willing to wait for operating temps, before you get on the loud pedal.

If you're less patient, Motul 5w50 would be the recommendation as it warms up faster. However the oil temp will sit a bit higher vs 10w, once you're pressing on.

Schweet, HX8 is 5w40. Seems like I'll try that.

Out of interest- what prompted the change? And did you notice any changes?

Motul oil was on special at that time so decided to give it a try. Also read about it on the forum. No changes.
