Oil on spark plugs

Good day guys

I am a BMW fan but not so much of a mechanic,lol..the problem might seem petty to the real fanatics.. I woke up this morning started my car as per normal, then 2 minutes later it started making a funny noise, I drove to work and the more I accelerated the more noise it made, so I went to one of the local mechanics and he checked my spark plugs....the third one had oil on it....so I bought new spark plugs and the car seems fine now but Im worried as to what the cause was, and the likelihood of it happening again can someone please explain or enlighten me please...this is on a E46

Regards
Blessing

changing spark plugs is not a good solution to the problem, with oil on the spark plug, must ultimately mean excessive oil in the combustion chamber, which might can be minor or as major as worn or broken piston rings.

A decent mechanic would need to do a compression test to determine the health of your piston rings and valves.

From my experience....

possible that the plug was not tightened properly, saw the exact same on a friends e46 330i, all the plugs where not tight, and each of them started sopping oil,

put in a fresh set of plugs, and... perfecto... just make sure they are all within spec of tightening torque and you sorted,

you may want to consider changing all the plugs at this time so you have a baseline on plug change...

Thank you very much guys....I will have the car checked out by another mechanic, for now we changed the spark plugs and its running fine...the noise is gone....but im not sure if i'm just imagining it or something but it seems some of the power is gone...it doesn't move the way it used to....I hope its only in my head...
