If it comes on while you driving and it is red, you should seriously consider stopping immediately :) loss of oil pressure.

I have a problem where the oil light comes on orange when I start he car, then it disappears after a short while. Could it be the same sensor that u are talking about.

Isn't this normal? Mine does this as well, but it would depend how short is short, mine goes orange for about half a second maybe less (together with the handbrake light (also orange))

Before I replaced mine that light would stay on for about 10-15 second after all the other start up light went off.
It's normal for it to come on for a half a second at start up.

Mine has the same problem as brown fox. The orange light stays on for roughly 10-15 seconds longer than all the other lights, then goes off.

Could this be a sign of the oil sensor fault. What ecactly does it measure? Oil level ? Or oil pressure? Or both?

And what would happen if I leave it be. I check the oil level every 2-3 days, so I'm very confident of the oil levels.

Yes It is a sign of a faulty oil level sensor.
Not sure if that sensor also does oil pressure I don't think so.
It measures the oil level.

Check the DIY out I found.

I had mine replace and fixed the issue.

I know this is an old thread but I have a problem that the yellow light comes on when idling and then goes off. I checked oil level and it is on max could this also be an indication of the oil sensor failure?

It is most likely that your level sensor has failed. A new one can be found at Goldwagen for around R800 or so. It is located underneath the sump so next time you change the oil change the sensor as well and the warning should disappear.

I contacted Goldwagen and they advised they have sensor for M47 engine he mentioned that i need a sensor for m47d which he did not have or was not sure if it was the same as the m47. Do you know what the Goldwagen part nu mber would be for the diesel or if it is same as the m47?
