Oil Level/Pressure warning light

The yellow oil warning light above the cluster comes on when the car is switched on but in about 5 seconds it disappears. Thus it does not stay on.

Checked the Oil level and the dipstick seems filled up to the top mark. Checked the manual just to be sure and it says when the yellow light comes on while driving stop IMMEDIATELY and check the level and fill up with oil. If it shows the yellow light when switched off it means that its just low oil level.

Not sure what i must do. Checked the rest of the engine bay and ATF oil is low. Not sure if that triggers it.

I have to be in Stellenbosch tomorrow morning at 6. Can anyone please advise if its wise to drive the car?

The yellow light means your oil level sensor is busted and needs to be replaced. Its sits right below the oil pan. The light just lets you know you need to check the oil with the dipstick. You can drive the car no worried, a new sensor is about R700 from GW.

Comes on red - Low oil pressure, shut off engine NOW!
Comes on yellow after shutting off car - A little low on oil. Add oil soon
Comes on yellow while driving - Significantly low on oil. Add ASAP!
Comes on yellow a few seconds after starting and then goes off after several seconds - Defective sensor. Check oil level manually until replaced."

It's annoying though. My 325i has started doing the same thing after a service. I got the sensor from the dealers, just have to replace it.

How much is it from the dealers ?

I assume it's the bottom sensor - not the one on the oil filter housing ?
