Oil filler cap getting shot off.

Hi guys, my e87 120d keeps shooting my oil cap off the engine. When I idle the car without the cap there is oil pushing up and shooting out. I am baffled. Any advice?

Not specific to your engine or your problem, but I have experience similar issues only once before.....and it wasn't good

The incident was on an aircraft piston engine where a hole had been burnt thru the piston, thus allowing highly compressed air from the combustion chamber to enter the relatively low pressure area of the crank case, and this caused the dipstick to be ejected as well as the oil filler cap to be ejected.

this was followed by catastrophic engine failure

I truly hope this isn't what is lying in wait for you

imraan it sounds like you have increased sump pressure and this could be attributed to a broken ring or piston

only one thing that can cause this and thats sump compression..

could be broken rings, hole in piston, or boost leaking to sump..

Agreed with the guys above.

If its popping your oil filler cap off - its sump compression, most propably an oil ring bypass - allowing compression pressure into the sump, weakest point to give, is your filler cap.

Any signs of smoke? A compression test will confirm.

Hope it helps...I wouldnt drive the car to much, before having it checked out properly, otherwise you run the risk of more serious damage.

Does anyone have idea as to where I could take my car to be checked out? I have a warranty on the car still and have to have the work done at an RMI approved dealer. I am in the Cape Town area.

The charge pipe was completely off the turbo so no vacuum was being created. Therefore the pressure built up. I think that's the correct explanation lol
