Oil Change - 645ci

I got my car back yesterday with a brand new front suspension. Get it, turn the key and...bong...oil service due now.

Had it done this morning. Cost R1580 all in all, including the 8l of fully synthetic Castrol Edge 5w40.

What do you guys think? Reasonable price or did I get ripped?

Doesnt sound too bad... VW want R1300 for an oil and oil filter change, did it myself for a fraction of the money...

That's about R500 more than what my dad is paying.
If we do it ourselves it'll come to R600-R650. With our mechanic's labour it'll be about 1k (but then you get you service book stamped).
I use the Castrol Depot in Cape Town to save on the oil.
The V8 takes 8L, my 330i takes 6.5L.
Just had mine done on thursday, the 6 is booked for next week.

My costs are based on Castrol Magnatec Professional 5W30 though, not Edge.
I was quoted about R120/L at Midas & R58/L at the depot :flyfun:
So that makes up the R500 difference :idea:

Did my E39 myself about a month ago too, Castrol prof 5w30 R80 p/l @ the dealers .

Maybe worth mentioning that price also includes the filter as well as an engine flush.

And as the oil filter for this car kinda sits underneath and not in the normal conveniant canister thingy, not a bad price, not great, but not bad

Oil filter is like R100 for OEM, if not cheaper, oils is about R800 (i think)

So call it 1k for parts, rest markup. then yea

Pretty easy job non the less, just dont try and do the plugs on that car yourself, unless you "hoe van sukkel"

I did an oil change on the 750 in an hour, and spent the rest of the saturday changing 8 spark plugs...

Lol. Yeah next oil change I will diy. As a matter of interest BMW charges R75/L for the oil.

Idrive says its 24'000 km until the next change is due. What do you guys think and/or how often do you change oil?

If you love your car, change the oil every 10000kms/ 1 year :=):

I change every 7500-8000km, about mid interval :thumbs:

I'd say every 10k is sufficient, keep the slips to show buyers you look after her :rollsmile:
My dads 6 is under warranty so it has to have services done via an authorised mechanic etc so we plan to DIY every 2nd oil change.
