OEM vs so called Pirate Part

so many guys have been asking whether its worth it to do pirate parts as opposed to OEM

as far as service kits go. I do not purchase OEM as far as i can help it. That in my opinion is inferior parts

so ive decided to put up a pic of just the airfilter that i replced as it was time to service again.

I could not get the "pirate airfilter" again so i was forced to purchase at menlyn auto in PTA east.

as you can see for yourself the OEM is not as superior as the supposed pirate part.

BAR the filter being dirty from 15K km done you can deduct for yourself the quality of the manufacturing of the filter

It really depends on the part... and what your definition of a 'Pirate part' is... if you buying quality aftermarket parts they are good quality... if they cheap Chinese knock offs then they junk for the most part...

I only buy quality aftermarket parts for my car because in most cases i can get the part made by the same manufacturer as the OEM BMW part for much less away from BMW...

The filter being dirty has nothing to do with inferior materials. A dirty filter means it has collected more dirt which makes sense. Clean filter means the places you driving around are clean.

agreed

more specifically if i can cast my mind back to which manufacturer it was

I think it was Hans Pries. Bought it at G-Wagen

The BMW filters tend to be cheaper than the ones you would buy from Midas or Autozone. Thats why i buy them from BMW. The oil is also cheaper from BMW as well.

on the E36 M3 my macky insisted on oem parts

I tried, NGK double platinum plugs but the car lost power, so had to get new oem plugs.

Ebc Brake discs drilled and slotted + ebc yellow stuff brake pads
The OEM stuff was noticeably better and quieter, when the ebc`s heated up they started to bite but for normal driving the OEM stuff was superior by some margin

Front fogs
I lost a fog in Plett and instead of forking out R1800 for a new set we got ones for R650, the aftermarket ones looked great (OEM look), but with the same bulbs they were noticeably weaker than the oem ones. I was a bit disappointed.

Just my experiences on my ex 94 model M3.
