In the mornings when the car is cold there is a screatch coming from the pulleys on my e46. Only happens when the car is cold otherwise its fine when warm.

Pulleys or tensioner? Possible to DIY this?

Its sounds terrible, like a screatch, only lasts about a minute though. Its worse when the weather is cold. Some days when it a warm day there is only a slight hint of it. Did you change the belts yourself? Difficult to do?

Nope had them done. was a few years ago, when the car was still my moms. Dont think it would be that difficult to do..

Yup i had that although it was an extremely short amount of time before the squeeling stopped, mostly just at the beginning of first gear on those winter mornings. Had the belts replaced during a service and no problems since then

That is gizmos garage.. And the engine bay is even cleaner now. With the electric fan, an more space to work, i stripped the air box an air meter out, an gave it a really good clean. Still not as clean as i would like. Will do it again some time with removing the window washer bottle, an a few other things.. Want the white paint under the bonnet to shine :)

yip plenty of space. Thats what happens when the engine is 2 cyl smaller :) gizmo says that it will look sweet with a nice shiny super charger sitting about the alternator :) maybe one day :)

Just an update, this problem turned out to be the starter motor bendix, when cold would make a noise because it was dry, had it lubed up, all sorted!

I wonder if it's the same issue I have. Mine only makes the noise when it's really cold. So it's only makes the noise in the Winter...

This is what mine sounds like. Did yours sound somewhat the same?

Na it didnt sound like that, it was a high pitched squeal, only for a few seconds when starting the car when realy cold. The noise would go away after about 2-3 seconds.

Well, I think I'll WD-40 everything over the weekend for good measure. Although I won't know if it worked as it's not cold enough anymore in the mornings.
