Noise coming from left rear-possible RSM problem

On the way home I got on a bit of a bumpy road. Those living in PTA may know the Rietvlei Rd which goes past the dam.

So I hit a few filled potholes and I hear a thud sound at every bounce. I am assuming its the RSM's. Maybe just the left one. :argh:

I check the Haynes manual but it does not give possible signs of the RSM failure. The only real way to check is to remove them.

I looked around could not see anything else loose like the exhaust or the trailing arm. I had the rear subframe repaired a few years back but that sounded different.

I need to get this checked and fixed ASAP maybe even tomorrow otherwise I wont make the midnight run.

Where can I source these except from BMW. Bemows is a bit of drive away even though I am in PTA. I am speculating at the moment and may just remove the shock and check if I get the nerve and space to work in the garage. :drama:

looks ez enuf. may have to get m3 and z3 parts

update: stripped the boot and removed wheel also. Rsm looks like it needs replacement but not urgently. I think the noise was coming from a steel tool next to the jack.

I don't know what its for but I tightened the loose wing nut. Test drove and the noise has dissapeared. I am so stupid I think.

if Bilstein make it you should not worry it will be good they dont make crap...

ofcourse, but somehow when i pay that little for a product i get a bit concerned that the quality will be inferior.

i have bought the "bilstein" brake pads from Bemow a few years back and they sucked big time-uneven wear which scraped my discs. so i am a bit wary to buy the RSM's at R120 each.

i cant even find reviews about the product online and not even on the bilstein website. anyway i will probably get it sorted in a few days. might get something from Turner if its worth the price.

Anyway I need to sort out the rsm's. Exhaust and tyre city menlyn are charging 750 for parts and labour. They going to fit monroe. Seems like a steal.

Rouge engineering ones. They have the Z3 reinforcement plates built in and are rebuildable. Thats whats going into my E46 next.
Though with my E36 I went with OEM E46 M3 RSM's and Z3 plates and was happy.

I will probably look into those next time. The knocking sound has me concerned so just gonna have them changed right away. Wanted to save the R500 on labour but dont have the time this week.
