E46 330i 5 speed should be around 3k RPM at 120 km/h.

nirvash said:Hi all,
Just another question,
This time regarding the 530i's weight, on my license disc it states that the car is 1527kg's, how accurate is the license disc usually?
Also does this sound about right? It's an auto by the way
Not that much of a heavy car then in my opinion:=):
Most online figures state around 1550kg+~
Can anyone clear this up?
My 330i weighed 1445+~ so not that much of a difference to the 530i

I must say that as far as auto boxes go, I'm very happy with the e39's one, very smooth and responds well when you need it to,
I remember reading somewhere that the face lift e39 auto boxes were the ZF ones and the pre facelift were the GM ones? Does anyone know if that is true?
Solo Man said:Yes, as far a i know it is the torque converter. Am not sure but i think it only locks in fifth gear and then only at 80 and above, so if you are slower than 80 and in fifth and you slightly depress the accelerator the engine will rev slightly and then the car will start to accelerate up to eighty and then it will lock and the speed and revs will then be in relation. I remember with my 2003 E39 530d the gearbox was actually very smooth and when overtaking it would just drop a gear and after the pass it would gear up smoothly. The E60 530d with the six speed auto is not as nice in that regard. Think the ZF box is not as smooth as the GM one in the E39. Don't get me wrong, the ZF gearbox is very nice, but when overtaking it is not as smooth as the older car.
