IIRC it has to do with the torque convertor, in terms of kick down, the car should actually be dropping a gear. In terms of the highway speed, autos are known to have longer ratios and revs sit lower.

I think I know what you talking about bud. It almost like a gear change, but isnt, the revs go up a bit. It happens when you lightly depress the throttle? Could it be an overdrive?

Ya, that's pretty much what I mean, it's like it changes a gear up or down, but doesn't actually change gear and stays in the same gear but the revs vary
Also thought its some sort of overdrive
It's not like there's anything wrong with it, it's both good for economy as well as acceleration, would just like to what what it is

Nothing wrong with it, mine does the same. You get used to it, almost becomes second nature. When going up a hill , I know exactly how much to press to get it to do that.

Hi all,
Just another question,
This time regarding the 530i's weight, on my license disc it states that the car is 1527kg's, how accurate is the license disc usually?
Also does this sound about right? It's an auto by the way

Not that much of a heavy car then in my opinion:=):

Most online figures state around 1550kg+~
Can anyone clear this up?

My 330i weighed 1445+~ so not that much of a difference to the 530i

i love e39's. im on my 2nd one. had a 2001 525i and now a 2000 530d.

The e39's use some aluminium suspension components to save weight, this is how its not that much heavier than the e46. its part of its design. wikipedia the e39

Yes, as far a i know it is the torque converter. Am not sure but i think it only locks in fifth gear and then only at 80 and above, so if you are slower than 80 and in fifth and you slightly depress the accelerator the engine will rev slightly and then the car will start to accelerate up to eighty and then it will lock and the speed and revs will then be in relation. I remember with my 2003 E39 530d the gearbox was actually very smooth and when overtaking it would just drop a gear and after the pass it would gear up smoothly. The E60 530d with the six speed auto is not as nice in that regard. Think the ZF box is not as smooth as the GM one in the E39. Don't get me wrong, the ZF gearbox is very nice, but when overtaking it is not as smooth as the older car.

Thanks for the info Johan:=):
I must say that as far as auto boxes go, I'm very happy with the e39's one, very smooth and responds well when you need it to,

I remember reading somewhere that the face lift e39 auto boxes were the ZF ones and the pre facelift were the GM ones? Does anyone know if that is true?

I dunno... I think the ZF box in the E60 is a thing of beauty. So far I've found its always in the right gear at the right time... That being said I never spent any large amounts of time driving an E39 Diesel auto

had a lekker weekend away with the car, went up to rooiels:=):
that coastal road up to rooiels was an absolute joy in the 530i, bliss, just pure bliss:rollsmile::blowheart:
took a couple photo's at a nice spot there with the car, they are a bit dark and just took with my phone, but will edit a couple when i get a chance,
hope you like them

also, last week i got the oil filter housing gasket and valve cover gasket replaced as they were leaking slightly,
also had the rear door lock actuator fixed so the rear right door now unlocks, they were also suppose to fix my window and said that they did, but somehow its still bust, so only winds up to 3/4 way:RedNo:
probably going to have to replace the regulator... any advice on where to get a replacement?
also picked up a problem with the front drivers side lock actuator so getting that replaced,
and need to fix the front seat twisting,

Try "NMU BMW Spares" - they are just off La Belle road in Stikland.
They were cheaper than Goldwagen etc when i was looking around in April.

Car is super hot!!! So want those wheels :clapper:
