NGK Plugs from BMW

Hi Gents

BMW are now supplying NGK spark plugs.

Are these the same as the Laser Iridium Plugs?

If they are, what is the part number of the plugs that can be used on our N54's that are a 1 or 2 step colder plug?

I dont know if this helps you but:

12 12 0 042 724 is the same as Laser Iridium SILZKBR8F8S

Maybe others can chime in with the part numbers for other heat ranges. It was cheaper from the dealer than buying NGK equivalents from parts or performance shops (Deago FTW)

The part numbers online seem to be different in different markets.

Unless thats a new part number that @"TurboLlew"  has given you.
It should be this part number :
NGK SILZKBR8D8S (97506)

Also just a note for your N54, these are 2 steps colder than the stock plug.
The one step cooler plug has been discontinued

This is the one that I used and got from ABM for my car, NGK Iridium 2 step colder and flex fuel: 12 12 0 042 724.

sorry for the hijack, anyone know the best plugs for a N52 ? or stick to the stock stuff ?

If you are stock then there is no benefit from changing IMHO. Tuned cars making significantly more power need it. @"NBN" posted a link which gives you an idea of why it is done and when to do it (ie you're making 100hp+ more)

Please give this a read, in most cases there is honestly no need to deviate from the stock/oem plug

Nice article

However the stock n54 plug is a 3 prong design which cannot be gapped. With much higher boost the spark is blown out, causing mis-fire.

The reason for change over to the NGK single prong design is that you are able to gap the plugs to prevent the spark blowing out.
BMS does mention that the life span of the colder plug is shorter, but that's a trade off we accept, rather than having a misfiring engine.

Thanks Llew, agreed. I have no intention of changing heat ranges, my question was what is the best brand, version or type of plug for N52.

eg. platinum, copper, twin prong, iridium etc.
