Hi guys, total newbie here - hoping to join the Fanatics family soon.
well been a fanatic without ever owning one!

Now I have my eye on a 2006 E90 323i Sportspack - just hit 100k on the clock. Stock standard - has the 17" run flats. Vehicle in immaculate nick.. drives like a dream (well from someone who previous drove Jap cars lol) looks the part too. dealer is asking R140K.
I'd like some opinions from the guys here on your thoughts on the car, pro's cons? any known problems - or anything a newbie on this car should know about.

Thanx guys.

Welcome

I have the same car. Great machine no doubt. The price you looking at is a bit on the high side.

Water pump on the E90's tend to fail around that mileage. Check what work BMW has done on the car.

I currently get 8.8L per 100km from my car.

Have a look for any oil leaks, heat exchange gaskets tend to wear. but the gaket cost R189 from BMW.

Other than that they are very solid cars. the engine and gearbox in the e90 323i is actually a 325i E90 engine and gearbox, just detuned motor.

Its more of a cruising car than a racer.

thank you for the comments - good points there..... car had a major service recently but i'll ask about the water pump. Car does feel solid and the ride is beautiful. - cruiser suits me well :=):

welome to the forum

ive also got a 323i,2008 model.
love it to bits, mine has 98500 on the clock,so nearly out of m/plan.
find it is a bit sluggish on pull off but once it gets going is a real pleasure to drive.

mine has had the diff replaaced as well as clutch, and steering pump.dont ask,bmw cant find a noise i can hear,so just replacing parts.

i average around 10 kilos on a litre,work and back,but when i went to balitto,last year,was getting 15 kilos on a litre.

i say get it,water pump might go,who knows,it is a wear and tear item.
am i extending m/plan?no,bmw asking R25000,so gonna put that money in the bank instead, and if it breaks fix it from that money

hope this helps, you can also ask jakkals323i on the forum

Great response - thank you much appreciated.
I also not extending the MP - but going for the 2yr warranty instead just for the peace of mind.

Also have the 323i... and mine is a 06.
From day one to be honest no issues with this car.

small little things that went that was replaced under motorplan but this happens with any car.. yes it's a bit sluggish on pull off but cruising it's perfect... and yes if you really want to and have a private test track you do get 233km/h on the GPS...

I love my car... and here's some before and after i got her..
http://www.bmwfanatics.co.za/showthread.php?tid=34683

At the moment she's got 400km to go then motorplan is over but i did extend mine to 125k km... and i'm not the least bit worried that she will cost me a arm, leg and a testicle to service afterwards... Take car of her and she will take care of you for sure. :)

Congrats on buying what i reckon is a great car and welcome to the forum..

Any questions.... i'm sure between myself, herr bmw and akash we can answer your 323i questions. :)

Services on the car is not as bad as you would think.

Buying your parts like oil filter, air filter, plugs and oil is actully cheaper at BMW. I paid R750 for my oil change, parts bought from BMW and i paid labour at a BMW mech doing private work.

Air filter is R389 around there. This you can change yourself easy as pie. Check your air filter once you take the car. You may want to replace it. I feel a huge difference to the car when i changed mine. The new filter i bought was orange in colour, when i replaced the filter the old one was black (dirt). Made me think when was the last time BMW changed the filter on the car.

I'll be replacing the current filter with a K&N filter soon, if i can find one.

Mirco filter also very easy to change.

Your car would have received new spark plugs at 90 000 km, no need to worry for a while.
