I've been following this informative site since 2020 when I started working. I had planned to buy my first car then, which was a G20 Mansi Edition, but life had it's fair share of knocks on my dream. The cost of buying one has skyrocketed and it would become the quickest way to life derailing debt at this point. So let me park that bus.
So back to 2020, I decided to buy a 2nd hand french car, cash thinking I'll save some money - Needless to say, it has cost me 3 times it's value in repairs over the last 2 & 1/2 years of ownership, now it makes sense why it was so cheap. It's even a nightmare to get rid of it because no one wants to buy it. I've literally blown my savings trying to keep it up and running. This is a bus I'd rather burn than park. That would save me money to save up for my 1st BMW.
Alright, now that I've let out some of that steam:
I would really appreciate any type of advice as I am in the market for a new car.
I have visited multiple dealerships to just sit in a BMW to feel and imagine myself driving off. My budget, realistically is a purchase price of R300-350k, financed.
My cars of interest:
A BMW F30 LCi, 320d preferably. I travel around 80km round trip from home to work. I prefer this over the petrol because they're "bulletproof" according to multiple forums I've read here. I've been plagued by car repairs for the last couple of years, I'd like to enjoy driving without stress. Nontheless these are hard to find. I'm open minded to the petrol variants.
Helps to note that I would've loved a BMW warranty & MPlan for peace of mind. It's worth a mention that most BMW buyers on this platform aren't worried about buying BMWs out of MPlan and they've driven them for many kms and years maintaining them at elsewhere.
I've also test driven an F20 LCI, that's an alternative car I'm open to buying. I'd like to know what I should look out for in the market for the aforementioned cars.
Is it advisable to buy one of these if the MPlan & Warranty has expired.
What amount of kilometers should I be staying away from as I'm browsing the market.
What's the cost of ownership from experienced BMW owners.
Is a R25k extension of MPlan worth it, especially for the 2017 & 2018 models etc etc.
I'm just a die hard BMW fanatic who has been scarred by a French damsel in distress, I need a rather reliable car which is Bavarian.
