Hi all,
New to this forum and wanted to say hi. My dad was a BMW mechanic so we grew up with lots of old BMW's. I have had a E36 318i, E46 320d and a first gen X3 3L MSport. But for the last 12 years its been only practical SUV's (Trailblazer, Fortuner, Everest). Now it was time to get a toy and I looked for a clean Z3 manual 3.0 for a long time but prices have gone crazy there so I ended up getting an E89 35i. So far loving the car but it has some issues. Biggest of which is needing new front shocks - which are NOT CHEAP seeing they are adaptive dampers.

Yesterday I read the Osiris 35i Saga from start to finish and its got me terrified, but excited at the same time.

Looking forward to interacting with you guys.

Ryan

Welcome @Mitchenator you will find lots of valuable info here.
As you already mentioned, @osiris thread is very thorough, but also, you will generally find the name "Osiris" in the dictionary between anal, and pedantic. so dont get too terrified, its a journey, embrace it as a good experience.
And that is why my E89 is near perfect and never gives issues! You need to be pedantic with N54's We both learned that haha

It IS perfect, and runs like a stabbed rat 100% of the time, your car doesnt know the term "cruising". lol

So I have had this car for a few months now and the work hasn't stopped - but I have loved it and really enjoying the car.

Work I have done so far:
- Service at BMW with new battery, gearbox cover and DCT oil, engine oil, brake fluid and cabin filter
- Bought second hand vents from a scrap yard and fitted all 4 vent sliders
- bought new sway bar links and fitted those myself
- Finally bought new front shocks from BMW (Sachs EDC - so they bankrupted me) - will be fitted next week
- Had 4 new Michelin P4S fitted this week (non run flat)
- Discovered all 4 wheels slightly warped and 2 cracked - welded and balanced (no wonder the car felt terrible at high speed)
- Fitted 4 new brake disks this week (and brake sensors - both had been cut and bypassed :(
- New OEM boot badge
- New set of OEM tools + bag + triangle
- New "35i" badge on the right side.
- New boot rubber seals left and right

Things I still need to look at:
- Xenon lights are crap - not sure if this is normal but I am not happy at night
- Mid and High frequency sound is crap so looking at possibly upgrading those speakers. Bass is very good!
- tomorrow she is getting a full detail. Will take some pics and post.

Haha I just made a whole reply to this thinking it was my old thread and my old car and I was like WTF...I replaced all those things. But never mind my mistake.
Now back to your actual woes with the car.
yea the work on these E89's never seems to stop and when you finally get through all the little irritations on the car you will find that you want stuff to work on and replace and fix so you will end up replacing stuff that doesn't look brand new :ROFLMAO: to make the car perfect....well I do that haha. Not everyone is like that though haha.

It is interesting that those particular rims are cracked as it's usually the rims I had on my Z4 that had the cracking issues, the rims you have if I am going by your profile pic were pretty damn strong so I am guessing the previous owner smashed a big pothole which explains the shocks and sway bar etc.

When are we getting pics of the car?
