Congrats Nick,

Very nice bakkies these. I have only seen them on the dealership floor but if the Haval Jolion (replaced the Tiguan) is anything to go by then there is no doubt in my mind these Chinese brands have really upped their game.

Just how do they afford to sell them soo cheap (affordable). The Mother Of All P Series will only costs R500k with all the bells and whistles. Equivalent Ranger and Hilux are almost a million or so.

Congrats and wishing you many happy miles

The time will come (or perhaps it has come already) to ask why the Ranger and Hilux cost what they do (together with the economies of scale and tax breaks etc available to them as local manufacturers). Don't get me wrong, I do think some of them are worth more... but not THAT MUCH more. I watched a cars.co.za bakkie shootout that was recently released. It is definitely worth a watch.

i think in Sa's history we have had the same players in the game for years and they almost influence each other ( might be manufactured influence between brands) on retail prices.
They compete so closely that there actually arnt many differences in the brands these day, its basically brand loyalty that drives the people to buy what they do.
To tell the honest truth i never thought id own a Chinese branded car.
Iv had to take a look at all the numbers with members of a whatsapp group, and iv owned that fact that im not Elon Musk and this brand offered the most for the least money.

Time will tell how it ages and how reliable it is, one thing i can say of the brand is the client service is amazing.

I found a few paint flaws this weekend while washing it, I Emailed the DP this morning - Workshop called me to arrange and loan car next week so they can take the bakkie to get all the paint work 100%.

So after my brief loan of the top spec P ( my car is back already lol) Im not so sure id spend the extra money .

Things that are annoying.
Steering assist , lane center assist, Speed warmings, proximity warnings on the dash and in the mirrors.
You can turn them all off, navigating through 5 menus for each setting but then the next time you start the car all the settings are all back.

Im sure some people enjoy that sort of thing but iv never felt so out of control in any car iv driven.

Things that i like.
The headlights - bi xenon with DLR's
The tail lights - LED units.

Overall im happier in the ''commercial'' version.

Amen

My wife's C Class Merc (and her dad's E class for that matter) can do all sorts of things including parking itself and warning of all sorts of impending doom. We have used most of these things probably once or twice just for the novelty... In scenarios where you would want park assistance you probably wouldn't trust the car to park itself anyway (if you've experienced this it is very disconcerting to begin with let alone in a scenario you yourself are uncomfortable with.

Information is OK (eg: speed limit info) but when it is pinging or forcibly changing your speed or pulling you back into a lane that is where it becomes a disaster. People who need those functions to intervene SHOULD NOT BE DRIVING. It reduces your capabilities and encourages distracted driving IMHO

Even infotainment stuff: ultimately if it can stream bluetooth or let us use Spotify/Apple music and give access to your virtual assistant, there isn't much more we need (we are probably getting too old for these gadgets). Weather etc? Who on earth cares when you have this info on your phone, PC, laptop, watch etc etc etc in a more consumable way.

I am curious to see how this vehicle will age. Knowing how Nick looked after the Lol90 it should be great, but I am still weary of the quality of these things. I'm keen to see how much wear will happen on things like window switches with everyday use. I also think it was a good choice to go cloth instead of pleather on the seats.

On Tuesday evening i went to a mates house to collect a few things as he is leaving for the UK.
A few small items turned into a full size treadmill, a dressing table with built in drawers and cupboard, 3x 9kg gas bottles and a 27'monitor.

All the big items loaded into the back of the P and i drove home like nothing happened.

Leaving for https://www.ruahpark.co.za/ tomorrow for its 1st camping trip - pics to follow ;)
