For F30 LCI 320i RealOEM shows exactly the same part numbers for all the head parts and gasket... except there is a 1mm and 0.7mm gasket option... perhaps these get used during assembly? Could also be for 'low quality fuel version' which our cars have...

Crankshaft and bearings identical
Block identical
Rods Identical

Piston has different part numbers and 320i has a note saying it can only be ordered after measuring pin location... SO this is probably the answer to it having a different CR. Could be for the 'low quality fuel version' which should have a lower CR too...

I believe the latest B range motors are mechanically similiar? The 530i I drove had 185kw/330nm IIRC same 2.0l engine. So clearly different tune levels, saves costs yeah.

O wait that brings back memories, sluggish motor, dead at higher RPMs, perhaps I am just used to more power, but not impressed with that motor at all. Sorry, I am negative :(
You can add all the turbos you want, there is still no replacement for displacement!

but realoem says the 320i pistons, though common to the 320i, 330e and 340i, are different to the 330i's pistons :dunno:

That would make sense because the 330i would have a lower compression ratio so it can withstand higher boost levels reliably.
