You can only get a spare key from the dealers, they will ask you to prove ownership and identification going back to your grandparents. Then you pay for the key, take the vaseline with.

You need owners identification and if registered under a company a letter from said company.

When I had to get a key replaced it was R2500

Toyota replacement key is between 2500 and 3000, thats without being programmed.

So at R2500, its not bad...lets hope you pay less.

@ClintonH - The vaseline goes hand in hand with the term, Getting shafted dry! We could break it up, but i think you know where its headed. The vaseline is there to help ease the pain...somewhat!

Since criminals can break into modern cars without much effort, I'm sure you can get the same thing done by a company that deals with transponder coding, and for a lot less than the dealership.

I paid R2800 for a w202 merc key last year, they ask for car papers and id and then import a key from germany, had 2 wait 2weeks, The prices are ridiculous but I guess it boils down to security and accessibility to theft so its justified, I GUESS!

Had the same experience with Audi a few years back.. what a palava!

I see here is a key/locksmith place in Bellville advertising transponder replacement - will check them out and see whats up there:fencelook:
