Hey guys, I recently purchased a BMW 116i F20 Auto (a big move as I was always a VW fan) however so far I think it the best move i made since! Plus im nearly 30 so it better!!

Anyways I have a few questions as the car came in today, it is pre-owned but from the BMW Dealership. I do not wish to do anything that can go against the motorplan or warranty and I always like to keep the Car "Standard"

O yeah i know some of the questions could cost alot of money and I should of bought a brand new witht he options but it also out of curiosity and if all is possible i would like to fit it in over time.

However here it is sorry if the list is long but I rather have on one single post! :

1. How do I confirm if my rear view mirror is an auto-dimming mirror, and if it is not can it be fitted by the dealer?

2. My side mirrors do not autofold (I also do not see the button on the door) and neither pressing my remote down autofold it. Can this be changed and fitted by the dealer. or at least the remote part as I read somewhere that it can be simple programming option :? How do I go about it as well.

3. If i want to fit Xenon Headlights which is the best fit as through BMW there are couple options what the difference between them? And can it be fitted on my BMW by the dealership?

4. Same as above but for the LED internal and external lights throughout the car.

5. The headlights do not automatically switch of if it dark (or i need to confirm it), how do I confirm if this feature is on the car and can it be fitted? <- obviously i need to check it in the dark which I have, was wondering though if there is anything i need to select in the settings on the iconnectdrive :p

6. The rain sensors for auto wipers how do I confirm this feature is in the car? and can they be fitted?

7. What is the difference between M Performance Steering wheel and the standard leather steering wheel (with the various control buttons) is it worth putting on? PS I do not think I have a leather steering wheel and it seems a bit hard and not "soft" like leather so which will be better? I am looking for something with a similar finish to my old Golf V GTI not in color scheme though but same feel.

8. I have an Ipod touch, besides getting the Music Connector / Adapter which allows me to control it from the steering wheel and see it on the screen, what other alternatives are out there? Or is there anything cheaper?

9. If I wanted to tint the windows slightly (smash and grab mostly) can the dealer do it or who would you guys recommend? Also take note it must not damage the warranty or motor plan

10. Can the seats front seats be changed? where would I get it from ? And i know there could be extra wiring but can I include heated seats with the whole lumbar and power seat?

11. Most important cleaning the car! I have seen on BMW accessories that they offer the washing materials like the BMW Wax and Foam etc it worth it? What will you guys recommend? O and I wish to get the Karcher Pressure hose and foam which one will be the best and most cost effective.

12. In addition to the above to clean my rims, tyres and windscreen inside and out again via BMW or the alternatives and which is the best alternatives. What would you guys recommend.

13. Lastly what else can still be fitted into the car? And what is possible and not?

14. Unrelated to the above for the fanatics in Durban, which BMW dealership is the best to get allt he above sorted out as well as to go for the normal service / motorplan? I heard some people mention that SMG is very good and BMW Auto Umhlanga. Just need to go to a dealership that willing to take the time and i there is any issues or if I want anything can done will be able to assist me, without telling me it cannot be done and I have read elsewhere that it can be done.

That is it! I am sorry if it a long list :sorry: but guidance is needed as I want to keep my car in mint condition and look after it! Hope you guys can help. The more detail the better!!

:ty: in advance! Oh and FYI I attach the pic of the car

1. Put your vin in a vin decoder google "BMW vin decoder". Not sure how to physically tell besides seeing a difference at night, never had an auto dimming mirror.

2. It depends if you have electric mirrors. If you so the feature can be coded, whether the dealership will do this is another story. If you do have electric mirrors then Ratslaaf@obdworx could code it for you.

3. Yes the dealership can do this for you. I suggest you go price this at the parts department before getting excited. Bring lube.

4. Go to parts department BMW sell a kit.

5. .... Test it at night.....

6. If it starts raining and your wipers come on, then you have this feature. Otherwise vin decoder.

7. The non msport wheels are hard, they are leather. It's worth it to me but again the cost may shock you.

8. Can't help here.

9. Yes the dealership can do it. Rather ask them who they use for their tinting and go through them directly.

10. Yes but again its going to cost you alot.

11. Probably not worth the money. Check the detailing section

12. Same as above

13. What do you want? Cosmetics? Again speak to BMW ask what retrofits they offer. Alternatively check realoem and see what retrofits are available.

14. Can't help

I agree fully
I know very little about detailling, but from a forum member (Fraser) who is doing detailling for fun, it is an intensive process, with the end result being a ceramic coating done, which protects the paint properly for months to come, way more than any shampoo and wash could ever achieve

Some good answers given above!!

Look my 2c is that every cent you put into retrofitting you will never see again, so unless you really want to kit the car out and keep it like forever then rather just enjoy the car and do a few cosmetic things here and there. :=):

Yeah, mostly though what is most important is the LED stuff and the headlights , the as my eyesight is crap at night lol and the ipod connector and making sure the car is well maintained, the folding mirrors is the only other plus that can help when parking and anything linked to anti glare. That there is most important to me. The steering wheel etc not so much

Thanks guys for the advice:)

Nice car, man. Great colour. Same rims as me - I love 'em.

Yuss, for all the extras you want fitted you're going to fork out.

I have non-motorised mirrors, that's definitely not a coding thing. You'll have to have the whole lot fitted from scratch.

All the stuff you want to add (except for window tint, I think) will have to be fitted through BMW directly or you risk voiding your motorplan, should you have one.

Your car sounds like it's a base model, so I don't think you'll have rain sensors or auto lights.

Thanks dude!

Yeah well i may not fit all of it but you know it would be nice to know exactly what can be done still. For what I paid for this car and if compare it to what I would be paying if i bought the same car adding all the extras im still saving :p Plus I still got leeway to spend on the budget I set aside for a car. But I do not think I will do everything now. But would still like to know what can and is out there you know, One day I could get bored and say screw it let me go get it lol

Managed to get my Ipod Connector today but the parts department at the said dealer was completely useless or rather too busy to tell me what can be retrofitted still and didnt even have sufficient knowledge of it had to ask someone else. So yeah if I do make any changes retrofits that dealer lost my business lol. Key importance for me is the autodimming rear view mirror, folding side mirrors (as the complex I live in and at work the parking spaces are kind of small) and Xenons

Anyway thanks yeah I do not want to risk my motorplan, i think it is a base model and im still exploring it still love the car:D And for a small bmw it really does move.

Anti Glare rear view looks like a film of tint on your rear view mirror, if it has it, you would see it easily.

Hey man, I'm guessing your 135i comes standard with all this kit? Or is it also add-ons at your expense?

Also, does anyone know if the M-Sport 1 series line comes with all the extras H4shX is looking for as standard? A little late now, but maybe the extra cash could've been spent on a nice 116i M-Sport, if they do.
