Navigation in F30 advice needed

Hi guys

Just a quick one. I recently purchased a 2015 F30 which came with the business navigation. When pressing the navigation button, it asked for a code to start the nav.

Took it to JSN Bmw in Bryanston today for the motorplan transfer and I was advised that the nav expires after 2 years and that I need to pay R1800 for a new code from BMW. Can anyone please shed some light on this for me? Why do I need to re-pay for something that should have come with the car?

The nav hardware comes with the car. Yes.
The software licence, however, expires after a few years and you need to pay to renew it for another few years.
If you can hack it, that is great.

My Mazda CX5 has the same story. All the nav hardware is there. But, it costs R6,000 to get the software activation for 3 years.

This must be something specific to business navigation because the professional nav I have has not asked for any code.

Mine has been working for 4 years.. Professional Nav though.. Let me guess.. The day after the MP expires it will ask me for the code :fencelook:

I have Business Nav, along with Connected Drive, so I guess Prof Nav users are exempt...

Money making scheme!

That's my thoughts as well. My E92 doesn't have that issue, it just works even though the maps are outdated. It doesn't "expire".

So I phoned around and spoke to someone at cedar isle BMW and apparently from 2016 or 2017 models onward this was changed to never expire. For all F30 models before that, it will expire after 2 years :/

For 6k you could get a top range Garmin or TomTom with lifetime maps and traffic!

In all honesty, I find the nav on my phone better than BMW.
Buy a nice phone mount and Bob's your uncle...

I have Pro Nav and as a test I compared it to google maps on my fone on a specific route and its almost exactly the same, it was uncanny that the voice prompts were in sync while driving. in fact the BMW one even says street names where as google doesn't.

@ OP check below link on pricing for connected drive.
has anyone made one of these purchases?

Those connected packages also seem like annual subscriptions...which is a no for me. My F25 has the prov nav package and has never expired post MP. But i use the google maps...its friendlier to use.

Thanks! Will find out if connected drive is a possible option for the car.

That's gonna be last resort if I can't get the car nav sorted for a reasonable price.
