I was thinking that if we can start a National Hill Climb Thread between all car forums and get enough support we can entice the organizers to make it a MSA sanctioned race series like in Europe and also be the first Car Forum to do this? Moderators could we get this online ASAP please? PM me if you need any details etc!

Cradle of human kind would be a nice run if we can get stupid cyclists off of it!!

number one on my list is this road close to Nottingham Road in the KZN

there is plenty accommodation in the area also this road runs close to the N3 so could easily be closed off for an event like this and its a very fun drive

the local economy could also do with the boost so i think people would be open to the idea if we pitch it right...

Yeah this is a huge effort as there are so many different organisations that you require permission from. Lets see if we can get some movement going on this to take to the organisers of the Knysna Hill Climb as that was so well organised and run.

I think its a cool idea..

but if you have a look at the gymkhana events turn out, its poor, even with advertising on all the car forums..

if we can get many involved, great!

i think the problem is almost no one knows when these things are taking place...

They did approve the Knysna Climb and it was a brilliant event.
Like i said we want to create a demand for Hill Climbs if we do a good enough job with enough committed enthusiasts we can get something on the table.

By having a pertition type list on this forum of supporters indicating there willingness to either participate as drivers, marshals and other odd jobs and supporters who will indicate there support at the events to give the series the numbers the organisers are looking for.

Also BMW fanatics as a club and who of the members can contribute towards increasing the numbers in our regional forums and then take all of this firstly to BMW and then the organisers and show them from a single Brand what we can do. Get all the brands of Forums to do like wise and if we cant come up with more than a 100 competitors at R2000 per entry plus the existing 80 entries at Knysna which may after logistics of where these guys operate from we could entice maybe 30 or so of them as well.

Renault Club members were sponsored stuff like NF octane boosters to get them to support which i think was a brilliant idea as it is something they can use etc and i actually drove down with a couple of really nice guy's from the Renault Club and at the event there were probally easy 50 Renaults from cars competing, cars used as shuttle services, spectators and publicity cars etc and it looked awesome the way Renault did it. Well done guys!:bravo:

There used to be a hillclimb series in the U.K., a time trial based thing open to all comers, many classics took part regularly too. Will research rules/regs on classes and things, see if anything can be used here. Don't know about the Knysna event, what was the format? Have some amazing stretches of road, nice and quiet, easy to close, all around here, even better gravel for the X men! Very keen to sign up, where's the dotted line? :joy:

Ok, so far it seems that there are 2 formats for hillclimbing in Europe, the British version (trust the poms to be different!) is a short course (1500m) sprint on tar, while the European version is over longer distances (8 - 10km) and on varied surfaces. There are many local series held, governed by a national association affiliated to the national motorsport body. So, to start, we need to decide on a format and create a national governing authority, anyone with the relevant clout out there? Researching further into the Australian version, perhaps something nearer to our conditions. Will report as info becomes available. Enjoy your day.
