Damn that totally sucks! You seem to have been without your car more this year than dealers have had it!
I agree with the post above. It should not effect your value if BMW does everything and keeps records etc.
Sorry to hear all the crap you've gone through. Thank goodness it is still under MP.

That pipe that runs from the water bottle/expansion tank across the top of the radiator and into the radiator pipe is a majr problem.

Mine ruptured yesterday. The whole pipe broke off in my hand when I was investigating.

Cant believe BMW use a shitty plastic pipe..

BMW now want R2900 rand to replace both pipes cause the main pipe has a nipple on it that is also bugged

My car is out of lan but I have a warranty for this type of thing. Unfortunately the warranty only covers the water pump so Im gonna be in the dwang for R2900 cause of a stupid plastic pipe

Eish dude, that really suck,

Yes luckily its under plan still but about to run out, so im really thinking to extend it.

This car is a gremlin of note, maybe and hopefully with the heart and brain transplant i should have a car with different more user friendly tendencies... And give me less problems...:roflol:

Email from Dealer says......

BMW just approved a brand new engine worth R185 000 on your BMW.

Im sure it will be hundreds...otherwise get rid of it...lol

Im starting to reach the end of my teather. These cars dont seem to be that reliable after about 100 000km. The engine is very strong but other parts start failing...and you cant keep extending motorplan because it becomes ludicrously expensive. So its a lose lose situation. I might just go back to Japanese.

Dude, one more issue from this car, i dont give a damn that its so rare. It will be handed back to the dealer and be parted with, Will buy myself a Subaru or Audi....

So hows that hey? R185,000.00 for a new motor. Obviously BMW'S inflation rate there....

Totally agree, mine also burst! Its a stupid design, goes from nice thick rubber hose to crappy plastic thin section (only above the radiator). I managed to just cut the broken section of the thin pipe (only lost about 5cm) and then rejoin with a new hose clamp.
I did get it fixed later under MP and I thought the pipe was about R900?? If they charging R2000 to fit they mad.
I've had my fair share of issues with my n54, but still wouldn't change it for anything.

Do you have a picture of the plastic water pipe ?

Is there an aftermarket pipe or silicone hose to replace it with ?

Hey bud if you are referring to the top radiator hose and the return pipe from the radiator hose to the water bottle then you are being ripped off.

It will take you no longer the 45mins to replace on your own.

If you get the radiator hose from Goldwagen then the entire job shouldn't cost you more than R1200, plus R500 labour at a bosch service center if you don't wish to do it yourself.

I replaced the same two pipes, got the radiator hose from GW and the Return pipe from BMW. Parts R1200 and fitted them myself.

Ya I did contemplate doing the job myself but the car was there and I wanted it back asap and I also wanted the peace of mind that there was no other potential issues with the car. Whenever something goes wrong with these type of cars I always kak myself so prefer a professional to be doing it.

Im going to put heat wrap around that entire pipe now. That should help.

I did argue for a discount so lets see when I pick it up just now.

The suspicious thing is that I had a routine service at cedar, and I was 500metres down the road after picking the car up when the hose burst. It makes me think that during the service they knicked that pipe so ya Im not a happy camper but I cant prove it.

@ Mike-R if u do book ur vehicle in at a dealer the best way is to first put the vehicle on the lift remove the aluminum sump guard underneath, once done that drop the vehicle and do a coolant pressure test at a pressure bar of 2.5 bars, where air using a pump and a seal cover which fits where ur expansion tank cap fits, is pumped into the cooling system once that is done check for visible leaks from radiator, water hoses and turbo coolant pipes in your case if your vehicle is drinking water you should see the water dripping, if you can not see any visible leaks when the vehicle is on the ground lift the vehicle up and check underneath for any leaks like the bottom radiator hose and that if that fails then check ur expansion tank because the tank could crack or the seal on the cap is probably worn out.

Howsit Gents,

Okay BMW confirmed today that the new engine has arrived and they are starting to assemble either today or tomorrow.

My question though, Whats the run in period and do's and dont's for a new engine?

treat it like a brand new car... gentle driving for the first 1500-2000km and hell for leather after that...

keep in mind everyone has their own idea of run in periods...

So shit to have your baby sitting st mechs and dealerships. However just be patient and hopefully it bears some good fruit.

If you ever do trade it in, you and I need to have a chat first.
