My VW Golf R

Sorry bud, a little harsh I know - I actually wanted to edit that post (not allowed for some reason) to make it less critical but it's my honest 100% opinion. Not hater of the R, superb machine, but the M135i is in a different league for the same money. AWD is really not a requirement unless you're in the Arctic and don't want to drift between mounds of ice.

Just can't get over the fact that for another R15k you could have a M135i that just farts all over your R.

not a very nice comment bro :nono:

We all have different wants and taste in cars.

I realise that, howeve your comment on 'wants and tastes' is a given or there'd not be 10000 brands and models to choose from. Point is if you put something up then be open to honest opinions.

I think youre making some assumptions here that need re thinking, and just to set the scene, I want to buy an M135i. I Will make this short as I dont want to hijack the thread, The Golf R has its abilities, especially on the drag strip where they post great times, the 4 wheel drive and dsg is superb and imo is a better car for quater mile drags than the m135i, which I believe Porra bought the golf R for, or one of the reasons. The m135i is an all round better car and yes It farts over it in many areas, but a modded Golf R over the 400m is very quick.....

Bud, the R is a great car. I'd love one and I'm a fussy mofo. However my opinion still stands. Quarter mile drags? Ok, not thought of that. Seems like a pointless waste of your tyres driving in a straight line, but each to their own. When relying on proper driving skill and wanting to track the car in anything but a stright line, the M135i will trump it. AWD is too clinical for my liking. Whole point of a forum: just personal opinion.

You mental man, dare tell - How much did those Coils cost? :joy:

The coils cost about R1500. Really not that bad. From VW they might cost R3K, but from the tuners we get discounted prices cause they bring them in themselves. The coils help with spark. What happens when you start increasing boost, timing and fueling on your map, is that on hot days your car pulls a bit of timing back to prevent detonation. All cars do it when ambient temperatures get too high and the intake temps can't cool down. Things like Front Mount Intercooler, Water/Meth Injection and the ignition coils help reduce timing pull as the motor is happy. The less timing pull you have, the happier the motor and thus, the more HP you will put out.

Opinion noted bud.

But the only way to really appreciate this AWD is to drive it. Insane levels of grip. I cannot even with this amount of power (Which is still too little) get the car to slide or wheelspin. Nothing!

On the 400m with a modded car and DSG software, these cars are insane... Watch this...

No wheelspin... She just darts and grips.

I really loved the 135i. What an awesome machine! But the car was being replaced. And the M135i F20 has the ugliest nose BMW ever fitted to a car! Sorry but that's my opinion.

Its crazy how quick and smooth the R is off the line. When you hitting the strip to s what time that beast can do?

Yeah I will agree with you - the F20 looks pig ugly. Actually from every angle. Perfection in every other way. The R is distinctive as there are few around. Enjoy bro :)

I might get chance in December to test her at ODI. That's if I'm not swamped with work...

Will keep you guys posted!

Been a while...

Here are some more updates...

Went to Kyle from Concept Audio and Performance.

I bought a new APR High Pressure Fuel Pump and here he is installing it for me.

Removal of the old HPFP.
1CIMG3001.jpg

Inspection of the cam follower, which still looks spotless at 3300kms...
1CIMG3002.jpg

My new pump! Expensive piece of equipment but of ultimate quality!!!
1CIMG3003.jpg

1CIMG3004.jpg

I was also offered a great special on an APR tune and went straight to Stage 2+. Car is really very very powerful now!

I know some of you may wonder why I left ETuners. Well the decision to move to APR was for personal gain. I have been doing a lot of reading up on their records and times and it's being proven... Nothing against ETuners as Shaheen and I are still friends and wouldn't want it any other way.

Also bought a set of H&R springs for my R. Big Thanks to Shaun from VAG Technik here.

And then stopped by Steve Hurley from Koni SA to have it fitted.

My new springs...

Old vs new..

Old strut being stripped

I then had a good chat with Steve and Ashley regarding the suspension setup. With little persuasion, I then decided to go the full route and match the springs to a set of Koni FSD dampers.

Also decided to do it proper and fitted Powerflex bushes to the front suspension...

Car was then booked at AutoQuip for alignment... The lowered results already show! You can see the difference already in previous pics of my build.

With all the horrible rains we have been having, my car look horrible when I got home back to the Free State. Needed to have her valeted again. I then took some decent snaps and here is what she looks like now.
