Awesome!

The difference in weight is quite astounding! :nonono:

Where'd you purchase it from? Ebay?

Thanks,

Well actually I didn't, did find a place that sell it for something like the price you mentioned, can't remember the exact amount (was around $3xx) which was when I decided to get it as they normally go for a lot more. But just as a joke I went the dealers to see what they want for it, like I did with the intake. I remember a while back someone mentioned that they got a quote from BMW for the plain brace (just a piece of metal that is fixed to each shock tower by one bolt), they wanted something like R7k for it and the price for the performance one was something like R14k. So going to the dealers this was what I was expecting. So after I showed the guy at the parts department where on the find the thing on their system, the price came back as R5080.20, I was surprised to say the least, plus the guy said that he could have it for the next day. Granted it would probably still have been cheaper to order it myself, but it was just a lot less trouble to get it from the dealers, so I did (also the other guys selling never got back to my email)

So yes, shock and horror, I got a performance part from the dealers :)

Thanks guys :praise:

@herr: maybe I can organize that my brother brings the 5 and I come in my car :)

@kabal: I wanted to ask what the price would be if they didn't have stock, if they had to order it, but didn't get to it, maybe it will be higher then, also strange that they should have stock of this (but not of my car's oil filter O-rings) but that's BMW for you I guess.

see the dealers are not that bad with there price, and you get a warranty with it,and motorsport bolt, about 5kw extra on the power

i knew it was real carbon  it would be silly to make it out of 'fake' carbon because its structural... also the weight is a dead give away...

I have to say I am still surprised at the price, not that it is cheap, but you normally struggle to leave the dealers with all your organs and limbs when just trying to get normal items, and here this performance part is priced so reasonably.

Thanks for all the comments guys

All I can say is that I am burning to fit this, hopefully I can get home from work a bit earlier tomorrow and do it then :)

one thing thou i noticed it will not sit flat on the tower... it has razed edges around the bolt holes...

i would make an insert out of aluminium to fill the gap... this will help prevent your strut tower from mushrooming...

im guessing they did it like this so it could fit both f/l and pre f/l because the pre f/l has dimples on the strut tower that a flat mounting surface would not fit on...

Ok, I see what you mean about dimples. Though I don't think the way the brace mounts to the tower will be a problem. The only issues/problems people seem to have that I came across is to do with fitment, as it is not just a simple bolt-on bolt off kind of thing, as the positive battery terminal in the engine bay has to be modded and relocated.

i would have thought they would have designed it to for with the terminal...

its not the end of the world if the strut bar does not sit flat on the tower, but it will help reinforce the town it it does... maybe something to look at later... as im sure you want to get that thing on now

Yeah, the old one had a cut-out where the terminal is, but it works better on that one because the mounting plate is solid plate, whereas on this one it is a ring so a cut-out is not possible without compromising there structure of the mount.

I will look at getting a plate to fill the gap in the future.

And yeah I want to get this on, only thing stopping me is that it is pretty cold outside :)
