Well, the car is with Garage 808, they've just finished work on the bearings. They sent through a picture of what the old bearings look like. Looks like we caught it just in time.

Needless to say, relieved that this is now done. They're now getting started on the Vanos and valve adjustments. Can't wait to get her back.

Just to update everyone:

Car has been booked in with Garage 808 for:
1. Vanos refurb;
2. Valve adjustments;
3. Rod bearings.

We're looking at around 2-4 weeks for everything to be done. She'll be going in next month, they're booked up until then.

FYI Adele at Garage 808 has been fantastic to correspond with. Will update on the services once I know.

Th next thing I'll need to deal with going forward is the navigation screen not working. The motor and everything works, screen is just still dead.

I guess I've got two options for this:
1. Fix it with stock parts - anyone in CT able to look at this and see what actually needs fixing?
2. Fit a more modern solution in. Issue is I'd want to at the very least keep the stock look - basically fitting a newer screen/ tablet into where it currently sits. Anyone have an idea on how to do this?
Howzit bud, i had the same issue with my satnav screen , if you need any more info pm me.

Car update! The car has been with Garage 808 for the better part of 5 weeks now. The vanos system did show some wear. Heres some pics of the wear sent through to me:

Stripped vanos unit:

Guide rail wear:

Oil pump disk wear:

oil pump disc wear.JPG

I would have the car back by now, but last minute asked them to strip the intake and clean the idle control valve and throttle bodies. Pretty happy that I decided to do this, because from the looks of things they really needed it.

The reason I opted for this was because I had noticed a slight hesitation on throttle response at the beginning of the rev-range. Initially I thought the hesitation may have been caused by the vanos, but after some research I found that it is often caused by oil build up on the ICV and throttle bodies. Decided to get these all done at the same time without testing so we're covering all grounds from the outset.

ICV before and after:

Before:

After:

idle valve after cleaning.JPG

Throttle bodies before and after:

After:

Should have the car back today. Will update again once I've given it a bit of a drive.

Again, to point out, this is what the wear on an engine with 111k kms looks like - obviously all cars are treated different over the years, but it might help someone know what to expect! Preventative maintenance is NB.

Nice work getting all the preventative stuff sorted out... After you run in the engine, you going to have loads of extra confidence in the car and even more fun... Enjoy it :)

My economical car is back!

The prognosis from Garage 808 is positive. They seem pretty happy with the state of the engine - it seems to have been maintained well before me. Very glad to have done all the preventative work.

I must say, the car feels fantastic. It is significantly stronger at lower revs, which must have been due to vanos/ valves or the throttle bodies (I'm assuming here). Response is now instant and zero hesitation. Couldn't be happier.

I must commend Garage 808, they've been fantastic to deal with.

Next up on the list though (all in good time, nothing urgent fortunately):

1. Figure the satnav screen out - I've spoken with @momo1, now I just need to start the troubleshooting on my end.
2. Bumper needs to be properly attached in some spots - can anyone recommend a good body shop in the CT area?
3. Brakes and brake pads at some point this year I believe.
4. Theres a very slight leak on the diff, so we'll need to look at that if it becomes a problem - so far it hasn't caused an issue at all.

If its just to re-align the bumper you could give Sprayworx (Nizaam - 082 750 8 Double 5 6) a shout in Koeberg Road, Milnerton - BMW brand lover. For anything more significant give KE Panelbeaters in Maitland a shout. The owner Kobus is an old pedantic guy who delivers great results - 021 593 8589.

Ladies and gents. Looks like my car is up for sale.

Reposting what I’ve already posted prior. Also, I can't create a sales thread because of my post count, not sure if this is remedial.

The great:
  • 2007 white z4mr.
  • 116k on the clock currently.
  • All preventative stuff done in the last 5k km. (vanos, bearings, icv cleaning, throttle body cleaning, valves adjusted and car serviced all at garage 808). See all details above.
  • Extended leather interior in pretty good nic.
  • Eventuri carbon intake (installed in the last 2k km). Have stock things too, up to the buyer if they'd like them back on or not.
  • Mechanically nothing to do.
  • I’ve also got a lot of the previous maintenance records, and a lot of history of the car.

The not as great:
  • Daylight running light out (bulb needs replacing). Seeing to this soon.
  • Angel eyes are a little dim too.
  • Navigation dvd drive is jammed - the dvd is inside, but not reading, so the screen is blank. Hasn’t been a big issue for me which is why I haven’t really put much effort in to fixing it. I see on eBay a replacement is somewhere around 3k to purchase and import.
  • Bumper has been re sprayed by the previous owner. Not sure why. There is no signs of an accident though, I had the bumper off yesterday and we confirmed. (I have pics)
I’m located in Cape Town - happy to meet up with anyone interested.

Also happy to share pics, you can dm me and I’ll send them through.

As far as price goes - I saw the cheapest available car in the country is sitting at 300ish with more kms and in much worse shape, without evidence of the big ticket preventative stuff done.

I'm looking for R325k :)

Feel free to share this with others that may be interested.

Have a feeling I’ll be regretful of this one day.

Morning all

Here's some car history and the optional extras of the car.

Gross majority of the driving was done under plan, and a lot of the big ticket stuff was done by BMW. The car has only done roughly 26k km since the end of motor plan in 2013.

Nice seeing some of the history visually like this. :)
