My Journey to a Z4 Coupe

Ok so I always loved cars
And after i got my license 9 years ago, i purchased my first car, a Golf Mk3 GTi, there was nothing i loved or hated more than it. I think it was cursed as something always went wrong. I still loved it though!
But Secretly I always had an extra love BMWs (even though my dad and brother were always VW), and when i could finally afford one, it wasn't the best, it was a simple black E87 118i with a lovely tan and black interior, the mileage was high at 150000km and I think I overpaid for it, but it was an absolute dream to drive coming from the golf and was reliable as ever, it never let me down once, however I always yearned for more power and BMWs N/A straight six was something I always dreamed of owning since high school,
so about 3 years back I sold the 118i and my search began for a 130i M Sport, i searched high and low, far and wide for a clean one, until I found a Silver 2006 M sport with just 65000km, I test drove it and wanted it with all my heart but just before i could finalize my finances, the owner sold it to a cash buyer, i was really p'd off, but not having a car, i was a little desperate so against my wishes i found a mint 2009 E87 120i M sport in space gray, to my eye it just looked awesome, and the owner was the wife of a BMW principle dealer, so I was safe, but still, it lacked the excitement i was looking for, fast forward to last year and i was dead set on a white F30 320d M sport, i looked at and driven a few and was just about to go ahead when i found an E90 320d Msport in white at a BMW dealership with 94000km and motor plan left for R130k cheaper than the similar mileage albeit 1 year later model F30, i was confused but the money being saved was a massive factor, so i went for the E90, and as much as i wasn't a fan of diesels or the E90 shape, it grew on me and as a machine it is just superb, for daily commute, to long distance to everything, its just a solid piece of machinery that does its job well, very well!
BUT i was still left with an itch to get something special, something rare , something with more soul…
something with ZING!!
So at the end of 2016 I started looking at the Z4 coupe, they were decently priced and I am one of those that just loved the shape, now I was confused between the M and the 3.0si….
The one will always be a legend and the other will always be the capable little brother. But after much research I found that the M was just a bit too intense , and the maintenance was something that scared me , Bearings costing 30k was something I just wasn’t comfortable with.
So I opted for the 3.0si..
And here she is , in all her Blackness..
I just love this shape especially the back end!

Being a 10 year old car there are a few things that I need to attend to which I'll list below , but I’m in no rush , the 320d is competent in getting me where I need to get to for now.

1) Paint has swirl marks and scratches ,this I know will bother me , so I intend to have the paint corrected and the rest of the car Glazed. Probably this weekend
2) Rear Tyres are knackered
3) Aircon needs a regas
4) Xenon’s need to be adjusted , possibly new globes.
5) Previous owner painted the brake callipers red which are annoying me already.
6) Cup don't fit flush for some reason

Other than that, this engine just sounds soooo Goooooooooood, you get a blip when changing gears and it just sings after 3000rpm, I simply love it!

Great story and beautiful ride!:clapper:

I think the itch has to be scratched eventually. I still want my N/A straight six at some point too. Congrats on this ride!

Thanks for the Kind words Guys.

I only just got it yesterday and want to have the paint corrected and glazed first before I can take some better pics.
the interior is still clean, there are a few spots on the aluminium trimming and plastics which have very tiny nicks or marks.
it something I would like to sort out as well.

Hey man

Have a very similar situation on my Z, the centre aluminium is a bit pocked (probably belts/keys hitting it) and then the plastics are also a bit knackered - let me know what you see in that regard to sort it!

Regards and enjoy your new ride!

Ok here's an update.
The Aricon did actually have GAS, but the car was in ''Transport Mode"' due to the previous owner leaving it standing for a while and the battery went pap. so I had limited functions on the climate control unit, basically no aircon, no rear demister and interior fan speed.
I had diagnostics done and the transport mode removed, and wala all is well.
Next step was the paint, it was bad especially because its black.
i've had the car professionally detailed and the difference is quite literally day and night. detailer spent 21hours on just polishing, he also added a ceramic coat for further future protection.
the problem with the globes wasn't actually the problem , instead the headlamps had 10years of oxidation and distorted the beam throw, this has also been corrected with the detail and headlamps are now restored to new.
I will hopefully fit new tyres this weekend.

new issue: during the interior detailing processes the steam used to clean the roof lining caused the glue to give way and now I will have to have it reupholstered. it is beigeish but I will probably get it redone in black.
car was serviced last in October 2016 and had olny done 3000km since, so im thinking I should delay the service for now and get ALL fluids changed in October this year.
Oils, coolant and brakes etc.

another thing that's really irritating me is the calipers the previous owner had them painted red, and this shows now that the car is all shiny.
im also thinking of getting these done in black.

what are your guys thoughts on the badging on the fenders and boot?

I had them removed prior to detailing , not sure if I should put them back.
