Hi everyone
As most of you know i have been on the hunt for a fun and affordable daily ever since selling the RS3. As much as i love driving my F85 X5M, i realized i was putting on too much of mileage to my liking having been down to one car at the time.
I had been looking at F30 320d’s and 320i (B48), until I came across this one owner unicorn at a pretty reasonable price way below my R300k daily budget. This car was all the way for sale in Cape Town. I had a friend go view it on my behalf and he phoned me while there to tell me me I should take it since I wasn’t ever going to find another in this condition as well as in terms of spec.
My new (to me) 2012 E90 335i N55:
-BSM
-6MT
-Msport
-Xenon Headlights
-Black Leather Interior
-82000km
-Sunroof
-iDrive
With regard to my plans for this car. In terms of looks I don’t really have anything planned for it as I’d like to keep it looking OEM as possible. Maybe carbon a front lip, a nice spoiler, mirror caps and side skirts would do. However I’m not too keen on doing black grilles and double slats as I feel those are more for the F-Series cars.
I definitely plan on upgrading things like the chargepipe, turbo inlets, intakes, thermostats and water pump as preventative maintenance, especially since this is an early variant of the N55 platform. At a later stage, I would like to a downpipe and an upgraded exhaust. I am aware that there was an M Performance Power Kit for this car, and I would be open to doing that to get some extra power, however I’m not too sure if bmw still offer it since it was back then when this car was still new.
It’s been a very long time since I’ve owned and driven a manual car. This is my 2nd N55, having owned the F20 M135i a few years ago. Many would say the E46 is the best 3 series ever made, but for me, I’d say it’s definitely the E90, especially the LCI M-Sport, although I’ll leave the best 3 series argument for another day since it’s a very debatable topic 😂😂. This car to date still looks so good for something that’s 12 years old and everything is still functional. Having owned it in the last week or so, I can honestly say it’s a lot more fun to drive than my RS3. My favorite part has to be that old school hydraulic steering and how the chassis feels, and not forgetting the 6MT factor. It’s crazy to think this car costed me less than what a brand new Kwid or one of those tiny cars would cost. The E90 335i, especially in N55 is probably one of the most underrated BMWs ever made, especially since at the time it was keeping up with the E9X M3 (not saying it’s the better car lol).
